The problem is that I can burn discs successfully, but the session cannot be closed. There is always this error:

Does this mean I am trying to write too much data possibly and then the session can't be closed? There are no errors related to the burning session in the kernel log nor any messages from growisofs indicating overburn.

I have tried three Optical Quantum 4x BD-R discs with the same results either at 10x (overspeed) or at 4x rated speed. However, an Optical Quantum BD-RE at 2x finishes the same burn without this error.

Unexpectedly, the disc seems to mount correctly and display a file list. I have not checksummed the files to verify. But I'm concerned this error at session close means either I am working with marginal media at the edges, or that the data was not written 100% correctly. Note that the session is marked "incomplete" in the media info.

Try to burn without finalize, and then try to close session...

That mediainfo was after the attempted burn, not on a blank disc. Also, growisofs does leave the session open until instructed to close it. In the case of my test burn I told it to create a session and then immediately close it, in which the latter part failed.

Hmm, that's not exactly correct. growisofs closes the current session always (this is what fails), but leaves the *disc* open until it is told to close the disc. Unfortunately, closing the disc fails because the last session cannot be closed even on retry attempts.
