This drive is currently $199 on Newegg, in case anybody is interested. I know I just ordered one. If you recall it was $249 a few weeks ago...

For those who upg. to 1.1, do you still have problem w/ Blu Ray +R DL recording?

Hello there I personally never said there was issues with stock firmware with recording bd-r DL media.. I referred to having issues with crappy quality dvd+R DL media. havent flashed the newer firmware yet due to the fact that blue ray recording to BD-R SL and BD-R DL and BD-re has worked flawless for me with the media ive been using in this thread..

now dvd-r or dvd+r and dvd+r DL is another issue in its own but blu ray works great!

i think that until they fix all issues (including non-bdr related, like dvd writing), the drive is still imperfect.

I received my drive today from Newegg. It is not the US retail box version, it is a Grey market brown box from Pioneer Europe, Belgium!

It was Made in Japan, November 2008.

I have the drive installed. Running Firmware 1.05

Prodisc made, 2004 date code

Jitter seems very nice. No bitsetting as far as I can find with this firmware.

By default, Nero CDSpeed enables defect management. To disable it:
Option > Transfer rate > enable "Streaming".

MID: Ritek.BR2
15 Pack Memorex Branded from Fry's
Type: BD-R 25 4x
Burned @:8x
Burned With: CD Speed 4.7.7.16
Drive/Firmware: Pioneer BDR-203/1.10

Thanks very much for your patience while I am testing this drive. I'm very new to Blu-Ray, and my standalone player (Pioneer BDP-51FD) is not here for me to test playability yet. I will be burning some BDMV and AVC-HD discs in the next few days.

Ritek is often slammed here on the forum for crap media, but I must say these BR2 discs seem like a winner to me for cost/quality - at least for data storage. I'll be testing this disc again to see how it holds up over the next few months, as well as subjecting it to U/V rays.

Burn time was impressive at 15 min, 2 sec. TRT is baby smooth, and ScanDisc reports 100%.

This is a test of the Ritek.BR2 disc that I burned around 2 weeks ago:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/2251821-post40.html

TRT and ScanDisc on the GGC-H20L LG BD Combo drive. Some users reported poor burns with Ritek.BR2 on the GGW version of this drive as I recall, so I wanted to see how well the GGC could read the Ritek.BR2 discs, which seem to be burned quite well by the Pioneer.

Result: a smooth TRT and a 100% score.

Hi everybody !

I have this unit since few days ago, purchased used (quite never used) from an unhappy guy that has tried (unsuccessfully, of course ) to make ONCE backup copy of a PS3 game. Then have disassembled it from his PC, and sold me for 85€.

I don't have jet any Blueray disk to test the unit, but I've tried to burn some DVD, and the quality is really IMPRESSIVE.

Firmware 1.11, First graph, second DVD+R burn at 12x speed, Verbatim full printable no id 16x MCC004 media, scan performed at 4x with a Liteon 20A1H.

Second graph, second DVD+R burn at 16x speed, Verbatim full printable no id 16x MCC004 media, scan performed at 4x with a Liteon 20A1H. PIF spike at aroun 3,7 GB is approximately where I've found a dust spot after DVD writing.

best wishes to everybody.

Gyxx
