So, I just went out and picked up one of the Pioneer Blu-ray internal player + DVD/CD writer. It's SATA, so I plug it into my Intel DG965OT motherboard with 6 SATA ports, running 3 drives in a RAID and 1 non-raid. I plug in the Pioneer, it boots, the ICH SATA discoverer finds my raid, the extra drive, and the Pioneer blu-ray drive. But when it goes to boot - i just get a prompt in the upper corner that flashes - and no booting. I unplug the Pioneer and it boots fine.

The Pioneer site was absolutely worthless for support on this, and I didn't see anything here in the forums. I have the board bios updated to the latest rev.

Ideas?

I'd be thinking you either have it in the wrong type of port, or the port is incorrectly configured. Often if you have 2 controllers only one is going to work correctly for a SATA optical. The BDC has been tested on quite a few 965 boards including genuine Intel boards and I've never seen this symptom before.

OK, it just appeared in the weekend newspaper ad for Fry's. $300 - no surprise there.

If you ever come to California, check out Fry's Electronics.
The stores are electronics/computer supermarkets. A little bit messy and unorganized, but I prefer that to the sterile look and the very limited selection of Best Buy and Circuit City.

Each Fry's store has a theme:
Palo Alto...Cowboy/Western
Fremont...Tesla/High Voltage
San Jose...Aztec Temple
Sunnyvale...History of Electronics (including an Apple I on display)
Campbell...Egyptian Pyramid
Burbank (Southern California)...Aliens Attack (a flying saucer crashed into the front entrance!)

If you have a RAID setup on the same SATA contoller then it's unlikely any optical drive will work on that controller. Optical drives tend not to be supported with RAID drivers.

I can confirm that the Pioneer 202 fails on many mobos
The SATA controllers seem to be the problem
Buy a cheap PCI SATA controller, plug the 202 into that, and it will most likely work.

No problems here with the BDC-S02 with Intel P35 (ICH9) or Intel P975x (ICH7) on Vista 64bit, both motherboards are Asus.

Which mobos especially?
Do you have some info or names?

Their release were delayed especially for being "compatible" with ASUS boards, so they should work really.
