| I bought a HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10N Blu-ray combo drive from ebay, when I got it and installed it it wouldn't play Blu-ray movies (Tried Nero 8 Showtime w/BD add ons, PowerDVD 7.3 and 8 Ultra). The same vendor sold to a few other people most of which don't have any problems except for one other. He ended finding a work around with AnyDVD HD which basically strips all protection from the drive, he also suggested that it might be a firmware issue. I used Everest 2007 to look up details of the drive and told the others with the drive to do the same. As it turns out, my drive didn't read as CT10N, but rather CT10L which is the HP version with LightScribe enabled, but the manufacture sticker on the outside of the drive does say CT10N. My firmware is YC07, the working drives have a firmware of WA02. This is a fairly new drive so I can't seem to find any sources that provide firmware updates and this is a OEM drive that normally ships pre-installed in notebooks like Fujitsu and Asus. Was wondering of anyone had any suggestions on how I could flash this to WA02? No working/wrong firmware: Optical Drive Properties: Device Description HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10L Serial Number XXXXXXXXX Firmware Revision YC07 Firmware Date 9/12/2008 Buffer Size 4 MB Working/right firmware: Optical Drive Properties: Device Description HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10N Serial Number XXXXXXXXXX Firmware Revision WA02 Firmware Date 8/11/2008 Buffer Size 4 MB |

| If you can play Blu-ray using AnyDVD HD with the same drive and firmware, I doubt it's the drive/firmware problem. It might be that your system is not HDCP compliance. Have you check with Cyberlink BD Advisor and all green?

| Yes all is green, all the people that I talked with bought the drive for the same notebook, Gateway P-7811 FX. The drives that play Blu-ray movies with out issues read as CT10N with firmware WA02 and are made before October, the drives that don't are marked externally CT10N, but read as CT10L with firmware YC07 made in October. I talked to LG and they don't have any info yet but are looking into it, they also mentioned that CT10L is there lightscribe version which both drives with YC07 seem to have enabled (haven't tried it out though). Most of the drives were bought by the same guy on eBay, only 2 thus far are not working without AnyDVD HD. |

| RangerXML, I see in another forum that you've returned the drive for exchange, so let us know how it goes.

| Yeah, the drive is to new for there to be enough resources out there for it yet. I would guess that it will become more popular in a little while because of its price point. Also there are 3 people now with CT10L, one of which the drive does work with WinDVD...don't ask how. The other guy without the working CT10 got WinDVD and still couldn't get the drive to work without AnyDVD HD. None of us has yet to actually drive using the LightScribe feature to see if its really there (mainly because I'm to cheap to buy the discs). |

| I bought an HP Pavillion (1st time not building my own computer), and it came with this Blu-Ray burner. But, I cannot seem to make it burn a Blu-Ray disc! No problem reading Blu-Ray, no problem reading/writing regular DVDs, CDs, but it does not recognize the Memorex1x-4x BD-R media. I recall a similar thing years ago with an HP DVD burner where it would not work with Memorex media. I am using the Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385 driver (Win7) and have trouble finding anything about the Hitachi drive-- specs, problems, etc. Honestly, I don't even know how to check the FW on this thing... So, ANY help would be much appreciated. Happy 2010! Bobbi |
