great review, great drive. just the slow bd writing speed is an additional negative point.

hi all,

anybody running that drive with Windows Vista final?
I'm facing problems to get it up and running....
BIOS is recognizing the BD, but Vista is still denying it...:-(
MB is ASUS M2N32WS Professional

any hints?

thx, lappes

Fantastic drive!
The only negative point is the price.

The LH-2E1S should be a Blu-ray combo drive, meaning it can burn i.e DVD’s but only read Blu-ray.

Jan70,

In the feature list of the drive, it says that it'll write -R and -RE dual layer media. Does such a thing yet exist? I didn't see any in the review. Great review, though. Very complete. I hope we start seeing a way to do good quality scans of this media class. Let's hole Lite-ON continues in their trend of providing good scanners as well as great writers.

Cheers.

Did someone noticed that in official specs there is no mention of BD-R 50/BD-RE 50 media read/write support? But, according to CDF review, there was, only at 1x speed though. It seems they have changed the specs on the main page and in pdf documentation in the meantime. Even retail stores do not list this feature.

Hey guys and dolls
A short note to voice my outrage at this piece of junk called a lite-on sohw-1693s . It started its nonsense a few weeks ago and has now stopped reading or writing, of course the shop where I bought the unit has closed down
and am told just to replace. From the get go this drive has been a piece of rubbish . Would be interested if anyone else has the same problems. The drive is not even a year old.

That's unrelated
Have you ensured that it doesn't work in another computer?

I have contacted Lite-On and they state that the drive will only read and burn BD discs at 2x and will *NOT* be upgraded for 4x burning.

Please append or remove the part about 4x writing from the review, unless you know something i don't which is quite possible.

I wonder why Liteon doesn't mention BD DL writing abilities on their official product info site................

Were BD DL writing tested?

I was asking the same thing in post #14, Liteon removed DL capabilities in newer revision of specs. It was probably promised by the firmware upgrade.

I have this drive and yes DL was promised as a firmware upgrade.

Generally it's a good drive but I have had some issues -
1) It's fussy about the SATA controller it's attached to (Intel seem OK (IHC5 and IHC9 anyway) but SI 3112 is a no go (reads small files but anything > about 25K locks it up).

Also have a firmware upgrade issue - see

so am i to take it that this drive doesn't support bd-r dl? i just got this drive today from newegg. the specs mention (on newegg) it supports bd-r dl, but no where on the box, or on lite-on site does it mention supporting bd-r dl.

if this drive doesn't support it, i'll just send this thing back, i haven't even opened it yet, and i don't want to invest in a bd-r sl on only drive.
