Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues

Blu-ray Hardware & Software Discuss, Blu-Ray / HDDVD LG GGC-H20L Combo Drive Issues at Home Entertainment forum; Your motherboard uses NVIDIA chipsets which is problematic in most cases. A cheap solution is to buy a PCI Sata controller card with SIL chipset such as this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815124020

    Hi,

thank you for the quick reply, zaina.

Is there a big difference between an optical drive and a hard drive? Because I have two S-ATA HDs and they both work fine.

Any chance a firmware update for the drive could correct this? But there seems to be no newer version than 1.03, right? Have only the people with Nvidia Chipsets problems with the drive or could this also be a defect or error in the hardware design of the drive?

    Robert

Yes, I know what an optical or a hard drive is. I meant why it makes such a difference for the Chipset if there is a hard drive or an optical drive connected...

I just wanted to add that I bought and installed a PCI-Express SATA Card with a SiL 3132 Chipset and now everything works fine.

    Thank you.

...and after installing a UDF 2.5 driver under Windows XP the Explorers can also show the contents of a Blu Ray/HD DVD.

I'm leaning towards the same solution, I have an nforce 630a but I was using the Microsoft SATA drivers. Still no luck.

What card did you get, specifically? Does it have to be PCI-E? Should it be PCI-E. Does it have to be that chipset? Or is that just the one we know works?
