The market for Network Attached Storage
devices (NAS) is continuously growing over the last years. There are more and
more companies entering the market with their NAS products. This time we are taking
a closer look at a NAS from LG Electronics, who kindly provided the LG N2A2DD2
NAS system for review. The N2A2 is aimed for the home consumer market, has an
affordable price and should help the home user to easily share its photos,
video, music and other content in the home network. Besides this, the device
offers some more really nice features, such as an integrated iTunes server,
print server, torrent downloader, access over the internet or home monitoring
via a USB webcam.
The LG NAS series also includes devices
with integrated DVD or Blu-ray burners. However, in this review we will have a
closer look on a plain NAS device without any optical drive included.
LG Electronics company information
LG is a well-known brand in the consumer
electronics market and most of you know their product range, but all of you who
want more information of the company can find it on their website.

Let’s take a closer look at the hardware.
The device comes with a quick installation
guide, a power supply, a software CD and a LAN cable.
The N2A2 NAS device and additional equipment
The device itself is a non-spectacular, but
stylish looking compact unit. It looks user-friendly, but offers some powerful
features, on which we will have a closer look later in this review.

The front of the device has a plastic moulding
that resembles brushed Aluminium. The USB 2.0 port can be
used to connect an external drive and by pushing the backup button above, you
can easily backup your data on-the-fly. We also find 4 white LEDs for the
indication of power, network activity and for the activity of the internal
HDDs.

N2A2 type label
A closer look at the type label shows us
that the NAS was produced in December 2010 in China.
When looking closer at the device, we see
that there is no way to easily replace the 2 hard-drives of the LG N2A2 NAS
device, not that they are not changeable, but it’s rather difficult since you
would have to open the device to achieve this aim.
Let’s head to the next page where we
take a look at the features of the LG N2A2 NAS.
