Hybrid HDD Ultrabooks to attack pure-SSD Ultrabook market

Hybrid HDD Ultrabooks to attack pure-SSD Ultrabook market.

According to researchers at TrendFocus, a 128GB SSD still accounts for roughly 25% of the BOM (build of materials) cost of an Ultrabook. With the development of thin 7mm 2.5" HDDs, TrendFocus predicts that Ultrabook manufacturers will use a large capacity 7mm 2.5" HDD coupled with a small mSATA to run as a cache for the SSD, to undercut with pure SSD Ultrabooks.

"... with prices to fall to between $799 and $899, according to researchers at TrendFocus. As their prices approach that of tablets..."

Most tablets are $350 - $500, so I can only assume this refers to overpriced iCrap.

"As their prices approach that of tablets, consumers are predicted to choose them over tablets due to their support for content creation."

This is crazy talk. People buy notebooks for content creation and tablets for convenience (ebooks, watching a movie on the bus/train to/from work, etc). They're two different animals. Who's going to write the next War and Peace on a tablet?

For that price I would take the real thing, a MacBook Air, and just install Windows.

Duke I'm sure you know many are using tablets (iPads mostly) for much more than consumption. iPad is an amazing IT management tool with all the IT tools available free or low cost. This is just an example and there are many more.
Its well known that iPad is being adopted by many organizations and its not for employees to consume content. Have you seen use cases ? Doctors & other medical professionals using them for their work etc....agian lots of uses cases out there.

Its a myth that you can't do content creation on a tablet, alot of people do and yes for professional purposes. No its not the BEST and no it won't be for an 3D artist creating special effects animations for the some Hollywood blockbuster. But for journalists and other writers its great. No they won't write a novel but they might write their next newspaper column.

I know they are, Ivid, but I'm talking in general and not the exception. Plus, if I sit on the fence with my posts, nobody will read them. LOL.

I work in a big hospital and have NEVER seen any doctor with an iPad or any other tablet. And, no, it's not a mental hospital. I know that's what you were thinking.
