Very good.

One thing I noticed is that it says SATA HD on the carton.
Do you think this likely with an USB external interface?

If you don't want (or need ) the software.
The Freecom Classic (Samsung HD501LJ).
Will cost around £25 > £30 less, at around £70.
With almost identical performance.
Though Verbatim's case is a little more funky.
