Opti Drive Control: il successore di CD-DVD Speed

Per chi non se ne fosse già accorto, il programma a noi (soprattutto batmax

) ben noto, CD-DVD Speed, è stato dismesso, cioè non verrà ulteriormente aggiornato.

L'autore del software, Erik Deppe, ha creato un nuovo software che non ha più niente a che vedere con Nero, che si chiama Opti Drive Control.

La buona notizia è che l'interfaccia grafica sembra molto più gradevole (io non ho ancora testato il programma, ma dagli screenshot che ci sono sul sito non sembra affatto male

).

la cattiva notizia è che il software adesso non è più gratuito, ma sarà disponibile solo in versione Trial per la durata di 30 giorni. Dopo questo periodo il programma andrà registrato col numero di serie che può essere acquistato al prezzo di €19.95 (mica tanto economico

)

Al momento non ci sono ulteriori aggiornamenti, ma se avrò delle notizie le posterò qui

Prima impressione: DECISAMENTE negativa

Ho impostato la velocità di scansione a 4x, ma è stata fatta a 1x

almeno fino a quando non mi ha fatto crashare il pc

Mi sembra (ma non ho voglia di leggere il manuale) che sia meno personalizzabile di prima: ad es. non sono riuscito a cambiare la scala delle ordinate e nemmeno a selezionare uno sfondo con colorazioni differenti, per mostrare i limiti di errore

Graficamente, mi sembra un po' una brutta copia delle Plextools. Spero di aver commesso io qualche errore nelle impostazioni, altrimenti, se l'autore spera che qualcuno cacci 20€ per questo programma, ho la netta sensazione che rimarrà deluso, almeno quanto lo sono rimasto io dopo averlo provato

Se le scansioni erano affidabili con il vecchio Cd speed ci teniamo quello.
Di certo non pago per scansionare

Anche se nel sito non è specificato, secondo me il software (quasi certamente per motivi di copyright) è stato riscritto da zero, e secondo me è ancora in fase di beta (non è che il vecchio cdspeed fosse esente da bug

)

é a dir poco ESOSO di CPU in fase di scan e il processo sembrerebbe venga lanciato con alta priorità. Con questi presupposti su qualche PC potrebbe verificarsi il crash.

Il pc dove l'ho fatto girare non è recentissimo (athlon 64 3200+, 2GB ram), ma questo è un programmino per le scansioni, mica crysis 2

Credo proprio che l'autore sia partito col piede sbagliato: se vuole iniziare a far pagare un programma che è stato gratuito per anni, ha tutto il diritto di farlo (anche se 20€ mi sembrano tanti per questo), ma non può ridurne le funzioni e metterlo in commercio in fase beta, facendo fare i beta-tester agli utenti che lo hanno pagato

Lo trovo un comportamento gravemente scorretto!

Se ho capito bene come stanno le cose, lo sviluppatore non lavora più per Nero, e quindi (quasi certamente per motivi di copyright) ha dovuto riscrivere da zero il programma.

Credo che sia stato un po' avventato nel metterlo a disposizione senza un'adeguato periodo di beta testing, e sono daccordo che 20 euro sono tanti, ma se ora non c'è più Nero a pagare le bollette posso capirlo benissimo se ha cambiato la licenza del software

Il mio sfogo può apparire esagerato; in fondo, se non piace, basta non comprarlo... E' che inizio seriamente ad essere seccato di questo comportamento generalizzato, per il quale vengono messi sul mercato prodotti (sia software che hardware) non testati e pieni di bug, con la scusa che "tanto poi con una patch o un aggiornamento firmware si risolverà tutto"... I miei soldi, però, ve li siete beccati subito; perchè devo aspettare i vostri comodi sperando che, prima o poi, vi decidiate a riparare alle vostre mancanze? Qui ci vorrebbe una legge a tutela dei consumatori: per ogni bug rilevato, restituzione del 20% del prezzo pagato o, a scelta del consumatore, risoluzione del contratto, con restituzione del bene e rimborso totale del prezzo di acquisto. Vedreste che la musica cambierebbe...

E' appena uscita la nuova versione 1.10 che (speriamo) risolva i problemi riscontrati finora

Io lo ho provato da quando è uscito, e dalla 1.00 che era
improponibile, Stallo di CPU e Riconoscimenti Errati delle
impostazioni, mancanza del Jitter per i Plextor, si è passati
alla 1.21 che è la prima "Stabile".

I 19€ sono un Esborso, se il programma integrasse altre
cose, specifiche per i vari masterizzatori, ma l'unica novità
è la creazione di un CD/DVD di Test con Errori pre impostati
in maniera crescente, ma mantenendo il supporto leggibile
se tutto funziona correttamente (Supporto e Masterizzatore)

I test sono su un forum esterno, ma non serve la registrazione
mi scoccia dover ricopiare tutti i test e link crociati delle immagini.

Tutto sommato il software con la V1.21 è adottabile ma non a
quel prezzo, per ora se lo scorda.

OT: Mi è morto il 716A (Seconda Volta) che cosa posso acquistare
che faccia il Bitsetting ? (Mi sarebbe piaciuto un master Blue-ray 8x
ma per ora nada)

Mi tocca rimangiarmi tutto quello che ho detto su ODC alla fine dei conti
il software per chi ha un Plextor fa SCHIFO non so per gli altri, master

Da ulteriori Test, soprattutto con la 1.21 ho notato un Boicottaggio in
quelli che sono i risultati, tanto da farmi quasi decidere di cambiare il
masterizzatore, non è che il mio Plextor sia tutto a posto, so già che
a 16x le scansioni fanno pietà, ma almeno ad 8x andavo da dio, erano
belle e curate, tutto d'un tratto con la 1.21, ha incominciato ad andare
alla deriva, tanto da far sembrare una degradazione del diodo, ma era
tutto un Bluff, di fatto riscanerizzando con plextools e facendo degli
ulteriori test di scansione, il difetto si è ridotto del 90% e gli speed test
danno ragione alle plextools.

Almeno ho il tempo di aspettare l'uscita di qualcosa di nuovo, credevo
di stare facendo fondi da bicchiere, buttati 4 CD buoni ed uno Realmente
marcio che avevofatto a 16x per test.

Qualche giorno fa è stata rilasciata la nuova versione, 1.40, con le seguenti novità:

Added Extra Tests
- Funnel seek, random seek, random transfer / seek, transfer inner, middle and outer, layer change time
- Spinup, spindown, eject, load and recognition time

Speriamo che non siano anche stati introdotti nuovi difetti

- il chipset Sanyo della serie PX-7xx viene gestito Malissimo, ma essendo l'880 basato su altro chipset (Mediatek)
dovrebbe dare risultati coerenti.
