Question: Slim CD Case Covers

Disc Printing and Labeling Discuss, Slim CD Case Covers at Computer Hardware forum; im looking to print slim cd case covers with my 4500... what direction should i be looking at? im also looking to print as a foldable cover.. any ideas or suggestion? thanks! im loving this printer along with the ability to refill...

you seem to have left links to slim DVD covers and not slim cd case covers?

Certainly Meritline carries CD Inserts for slim CD cases?

If you have Photoshop or other editor, I'm sure there are many templates to be found and, as suggested, print on plain paper and cut.

Got it, in that case, you could possibly use:

HP Brochure & Flyer Paper. I've been using it for years for my DVD booklets. You do have to use a paper cutter but the Meritline CD paper doesn't indicate it's die cut so you may have to cut it as well.

Your 4500...that would be the Canon iP4500 right?

The installation CD has a great application for making covers...options for whatever type of cover you want. CDLabel Print
It works very well...choose whatever paper type you need, and it prints CDs as well

My old stay-home desktop machine has an older LG and an antique Plextor. There´s a Mac G4 lying around too...still not sure what to do with that yet . Just picked up a great netbook: the MSI Wind U100-L which has NO OPTICAL DRIVE but at least it´s black Finally, a Cube Reaction...which is a mountain bike <-- looks good and goes like the clappers (can I call it an "optical drive"?)

I have not tried it but I just thought of a CD booklet which you can double fold so it's tighter in the case? That might even allow printing on both sides of the insert. Grrrrr making me have to link to Meritline?

yea i got the ip4500 printer... i do my designs in photoshop...all i would need is the paper (im assuming the one from merit is thicker then normal paper)

I use this as well. You can get a lot more prints for your money. Plus it is gloss on front and back. I print double sided slim case inserts for musicans in quantity. the standard price is 29.99 for a 150 pack....and you can print 2 on each sheet. about 8 cents a cover cost. PLUS you can often find this on sale at the major office chains....and HP.com had them buy 2 get 1 free just last week, they may still have it. Included Free next day shipping as well. I dont like the pre-sheets like those from merit line. I don't want a perforated edge. I do have to cut them, but I have a paper cutter....just like up the edge and cut 10 at a time perfect and straight.

yeah I've done the paper cutter thing. I did not think of the standard booklets. I'm going to have to dig some up and try it. Slim jewel cases have always been a PITA to brand. It still does not solve on the edge or the binder view. Of course that is the weakness of slims. Standard jewel cases are really the only way to take care of that with a J-card. Maybe RFID or bar code could meet the challenge

With the Canon printers, I think you are really better off using their CD-labelPrint software. It has options for every possible output you will need and makes life so much easier.
Slim case folded booklets, Jewel case back/edge inserts, discs etc are all there.

Do the designs in Photoshop or whatever you like without worrying about final size (within reason)...then just import them. Sizing is automatic but also manually adjustable...slide the image left, right, up or down...drag corners to resize or rotate...add extra text...change brightness, color etc

sorry for dragging this thread... but to the guys whos using hp paper, what weight are you using? also, have you tried making a booklet? how well does it fold?

HP Brochure & Flyer paper is 48 lb. I fold it to make DVD booklets, it folds easily. I line up the edges, press down with thumbs on the fold in the center then slide out one thumb at a time. No problems.

One Thing to note on this paper....if you print full back and front picture image quality....it makes the paper....err... flimsy? wavy? you may want to try just a small pack first. Its not very noticable...almost not at all...but I noticed after printing both sides witha photo image it didnt seem as thick any more with all the ink saturation. Still...A VERY CHEAP and reliable paper to use for this task.

Quick question regarding this HP Brochure and Flyer Paper; does this work well in Canon printers (specifically my MP610) and if so, what paper type do you choose in the Canon print driver? If not is there an equivalent Canon paper?

Secondly, has anyone tried the Staples own brand Brochure and Flyer Paper at half the price of the HP one? Any good? I think this is Matte and not gloss, but that doesn't matter to me. (it's better in a JC anyway).

I wouldn't say flimsy, but yes, it can get a little "wavy" when printing full color, but it does dry up nicely. I'd say if you're going to print full color, let it dry a day before printing the other side.

Yes, at least on my Canon iP4500. I just use the Glossy Photo Paper media type.

They have both gloss and matte (in the US they do). I bought the gloss paper Item #610489 (their website doesn't list it, what's up with that ?!?). It's more glossy than the HP version. A little too much for my taste. For personal use I'm sure it's OK but I sell my DVDs to I think I'll stick with the somewhat more expensive HP paper.

cool. yeah, my cds are commercial too. I think I might give the Staples Matte Brochure and Flyer Paper a go to see what it's like. Otherwise I found some of the Canon 170gsm paper on amazon for about £8 which might be worth a try too. thanks for the info.
