Not to take anything away from your and Jan70's great work, but it would be nice to have a comparison against white printable discs also.

BTW, I often wonder why people even care about "half an hour" LightScribe crap, or almost "non existing" LabelFlash, when a simple printer can achieve photo quality prints on CD/DVD's in 5mins.

Well said , i think people just like the sound of the words ' lightscribe & ' labelflash ' .

I can print a high resoltion image onto a disc in under 2 mins with my Epson RX 585 stylus , this is a fairly cheap printer .......... so what is all the fuss about ?

For a moment I thought that I would be better off with the matte white hub-printables Verbatim makes (SKU 94917s), but I did a side-by-side comparison between them, where both discs have the same image and both have the UV glossy spray. These glossy DVD-Rs beats the matte-white hands down! The matte-white discs have a bit of speckles in them giving them a film grain look - the spray unfortunately makes them much more visible. This is completely gone with the glossy discs!

BTW, another advantage of the sprays is that it hides the bronzing effect. When you print an image that has many dark shades on it, you may notice an almost 3D embossed look to them since the printer lays down so much ink in those areas. It's like looking at the darker parts of an oil painting - you can see the ink ridges! Using a spray smooths them out and hides the effect.

Thanks for this information , i was about to waste £ 30 on a pack of these DVD's.
I can now safely say i will never be buying any of these discs.
I'm sorry but having to spray onto a disc to stop it smudging is insane , why can't someone just make a DVD with an exPressit glossy label on it ?
You can produce outsanding prints on expressit glossy labels that are waterproof and do not smudge.
A dvd that smudges when rubbed with moisture is a bad joke , i'm sorry but this is just the way i feel!

Bingo! (On this rather old thread... )

Also, Verbatim makes a similar waterproof inkjet printable disc called the Auqa-Ace.

I am testing Taiyo Yuden Watershield Inkjet Printable Full Face DVD-R.

My first impressions are good .
The print is a high resolution , vibrant colored & glossy finish.
The ink dries instantly meaning no smudges .
It is recommended by Taiyo Yuden to let the DVD dry for a full 24 hours before using , however all prints are best left for 24 hours to dry to let any internal moisture evaporate.
Taiyo Yuden's DVD's dry instantly , the finished surface is a highly gloss 'glass like' finish.

The recording of the DVD's and compatibility of the discs with different disc drives and burning programs is second to none!

I like Taiyo Yuden discs, no need for any waterproof sprays .

I have ordered some more TY Inkjet Printable DVD's to test out how they print.

1: 10 X Taiyo Yuden Triple Guard - SCRATCHPROOF - Full Face Inkjet printable DVD'S

2: 10 X Taiyo Yuden 'Regular' White Printable DVD's

I will test both of these samples and let you know the outcome.

Now for the downfalls of The TY Watersield DVD's.

They pick up scratches , scuff markes , blemishes and even finger prints incredibly easily.

This is my only major problem with the finished print on these discs.

Apparently the TY Scratchproof DVD's have an amazing tuffness to wear and tear and will hold back the scratches .
If TY could combine the properties of both Watersheild and Sratchproof then they could create an awesome Printable DVD!

thanks God..Finally I can fully utilize my Epson R280 and Ufosystem.net refill ink kit.
The ink is water resistance which does not require waterproof sprays.

I have found to be the AquaGuard coating to have the better resistance for printing on the media with Epson ink. Verbatim glossy and Watershield I think are the same coating.

It is the ink that you mention I am wanting to ask about.

I have only used the Epson brand ink for the printer but it costs many more dollars than I think it should so think of the refill kit or CISS to save money. But is the other ink printing with as good of color trueness and clarity?

Thank you
