Warner Bros to release high-def classics to VOD before Blu-ray

Casablanca, Doctor Zhivago and Rebel Without a Cause are amongst 85 Warner Bros. classic films to be released on high-def cable Video On Demand to celebrate the studio's 85th anniversary.

Participating VOD services include Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cox Cable, Charter Communications and Rogers Cable as well as satellite providers DirecTV and DISH Network. Many of the classic movies are to be available in high-def before they've been released on Blu-ray. First-time high-def offerings include Ben-Hur, Chariots of Fire, Cool Hand Luke, Risky Business, The Shawshank Redemption and Singin’ in the Rain.

In addition, Time Warner Cable will celebrate the Studio's anniversary by holding special outdoor screenings in New York and Los Angeles of Casablanca, Superman: The Movie and other Warner Bros. Pictures releases.
