Amazon to release new tablets

Amazon.com has been reasonably successful with their e-readers and Kindle Fire tablet, but they are facing renewed competition in the form of Google's Nexus 7 and the upcoming Surface tablets from Microsoft.  They are planning to release several variations of new tablets, including one with a 10" screen.   This information comes from a vice president of Staples, which sells the Kindle Fire, but no statement has been given out  by Amazon, so there are no details available yet on the tablets.

Amazon  already released some information early this month regarding a refresh of the Kindle Fire, and this version is expected in the third quarter of this year.  The newer Kindle Fire will be thinner, have a better screen with 1280 x 800 resolution, and a camera.  But it now seems a stop-gap until the new Amazon tablets arrive.

With their digital sales system already well established, Amazon could become  a formidable player in this growing market.  The real question is, can any of them take on Apple in this market?
