Blu-ray production adopted faster than DVD

Now that the consumer is still in the adoption phase, and major consuming isn't happening yet, you would think Blu-ray production to be still at its start. This isn't true, says the German optical disc equipment maker Singulus. In the first quarter Singulus received 21 orders for Blu-ray dual-layer machines, which is four more than its predecessor DVD received eleven years ago. Chief Financial Officer Baustert said this to The Guardian.

With high volumes and some demand you would expect prices to go down, but Sony uses its monopoly effectively and waits for the market to mature, before dropping its prices. Besides the quick adoption, Singulus announced that a key U.S. customer accepted one of the machines for the first time. This announcement could be proof for yesterday's rumor about a possible Microsoft entrance.
