1st impressions of Toshiba HD-A2 revealed at Home Theater Blog

Home Theater Blog has published its first impressions of the new Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player.  While the reviewer intends doing a complete review, the first impressions are rather positive over the HD-A1.  The main improvement is a much faster power up time of around 20 seconds, unlike over a minute for the earlier HD-A1 and HD-XA1 models.

When it comes to picture quality, the reviewer noticed a possible improvement over the XA1, however this will be checked further later on.  Other noticeable improvements include a remote that more resembles a DVD remote and a much more compact player, more resembling a DVD player than an early VCR.

Now that Toshiba succeeded in reducing the player's size to that of a typical DVD player, the next stage in my opinion will be to work on cutting down the player's price.  At the moment, Toshiba's existing HD-A1 has gone back up in price to around US$499.99 at several online stores such as Amazon and BestBuy, likely due to the Christmas season.
