Question on using preview window. With the new version 6.0.2.0 I have to use the Internal option, which has no sound. If I use the Directshow option, I get nothing, no picture or sound. Is this the way this version will work. Other versions they have put out will only work one way or the other, which users have found out by trying. Are all of the versions should work both ways, which ever the user wants.

What settings are you using for the decoders? Have you played with them at all to see if one of them will trigger the audio?

DirectShow should also work, and again, you may have to play with the decoders to get a combo that works in your system.

There may still be something wrong with Preview. When I try it (6.0.2.0) with some titles it jumps to the last chapter of the title and plays nothing. Some play normally. I have the DVDFab video and audio decoders selected.

Yup, I found the same. With most titles, Preview functions ok, but with some, it's still glitchy. As previously, it seems worse with certain series discs, but overall it has improved from the previous beta versions...at least for me.

New version 6.0.2.0 the preview in directshow mode using the dvdfab decoder is only giving me sound and no video. Other decoders in my list work fine, and the internal mode is working fine. The slider works fine for me.

Will have to do more testing with the options that are there. Try more settings. One would think all would work right out of the box.
Thanks for all of your inputs.

One might think that, but if one stops to ponder that:

a) all DVDs are not created equal

b) copy protections vary disc to disc and title to title

One soon realizes that an 'Out-Of-The-Box' solution just ain't possible, with all the possible variations. There has to be some leeway to allow for best results in all situations.

This is why we say you'll have to play to get best results in some cases.
Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of video.

I have been having problems using Preview since DVDFab version 6. Under DVD-to-DVD Customize, selecting a title may or may not begin the preview. If the particular title does not start automatically (even selecting the PLAY icon does not begin the preview), I find that the only work-around way to start some of the titles is to nudge the slider to start and then nudge the slider back to the beginning (left-most position) if I want to preview from the beginning of the title. I believe that I am using the default Preview settings. Under set up, I have Preview set to SHOW preview window automatically; Preview set to PLAY selected source automatically; Decoder set to DirectShow; DirectShow Video Decoder set to DVDFab Video Decoder; and DirectShow Audio Decoder set to DVDFab Audio Decoder. I have tried alternative Decoder settings without any change in the Preview panel play/autoplay functionality. Of course, there are some titles that just don't have any content; presumably because they are only a few second long typically. The titles that typically do not start are the ones that are short; such as Movie Previews, Bonus Feature Deleted Scene titles, etc. However, I have found that sometimes (on some DVDs) the main title exhibits the same problem of not starting automatically or manually (using the PLAY button). Presumably this is just a software bug that snuck into version 6 (now using version 6.0.2.2).

System: Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 64-bit (6.0.602)
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
12 GB memory
NVidia GeForce 9800 GT with 1GB DDR3
2560 x 1600 pixel display @ 32-bit color
DirectX 10.0

I am having the same problem.

If I use the internal setting I get picture and no sound. If I use the Direct Show Setting (both DVDFab options) I get sound and a black screen.

I have tried all other combinations and get either sound and no picture or DVDFab crashes.

It worked fine in version 5.

I realise this may be a little late to help the original poster but it may help others in the futre.

I had a problem with DvdFab preview and MPC-HC, If I could get MPC-HC to playback smoothly, DvdFab preview would stop working and vise versa. After trying all the combinations of options that were available for DvdFab codecs and MPC-HC, I resorted to FFDshow-Tryouts, a codec pack, something that I have been trying to avoid. Problem solved.

Here is how I solved the preview issue and not mess up the other program codecs on my system:

Installed FFDshow-tryouts downloaded from sourceforge. During the installation I only installed the main app and unchecked support for the other apps (i.e. AVIsynth)

when I was prompted to choose which tasks and formats FFDshow should perform, I Unchecked ALL boxes

After installation I launched DvdFab and in the Preview settings chose FFDshow for Video and DvdFab for Audio

Now MPC-HC is running smoothly again I have the preview in DvdFab working and FFDshow basically dormant unless I use DvdFab.

I also want to add: By using a codec pack and choosing it for Video support in DvdFab, you are sure to have all the codecs that DvdFab supports available for the Video Preview.

Same problem in 6.0.3.0
