| No Archos or DivX settings Hello, I have just downloaded the trial of DVDFAB 5.0.3.0 and notice that in the mobile section there isn't an option to encode to the Archos player. Also, in "generic" there is no option to encode to DivX. Both of these options are shown in the tutorial. All I want to do with the software is rip from DVD via the PC to the Archos, which I usually do in DivX, and keep an archive on the PC. Other options do work well and have settled for the Generic AVI Xvid Audiocopy, but just wondered where the Archos options were. Otherwise, this is a great program and I will certainly be purchasing. |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings These are profiles I made and put in my machine that appear using Customize UI to install them as devices, so they show up in the screen captures. I don't use the divx/xvid one any more since the H264 looks much better. I will attach them as text files. Copy them to your profiles folder, changing the .txt to .xml. Then use Customize UI->DVD to Mobile, New to make them show up in the navigation window as they do in the captures.

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings Thank you for the profiles, I will try them now. I did some test encoding with H264 but it wouldn't play with Windows media player. Do I need a codec or another player? |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings Hi Baz47 and welcome to cdfreaks, It appears my good friend signals is offline right now. Maybe he's actually earning his keep... ![]() (Just kidding pard) Anyway, we usually recommend VLC media player. It does not rely on outside codecs and willl play darn near anything. It's free and there's a lnk in my sig...

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings I downloaded the VLC player and used the Archos profiles and have come up with two problems. The Archos wont play H264 files, I need to purchase a plug-in. Windows Media Player 10 wont play MPeg-4 and neither will the VLC player. Nero also wants me to purchase a plug-in. How do I play MPeg-4 on the PC? |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings The .MP4s (H.264+MP3) that I make with that profile play perfectly on VLC. I have done tons of them. I'll try one with the xvid profile (makes AVIs) which I haven't used in a while. The profile may need tweaking. Sorry, I have the Cinema and H264 plugins on mine; I though you mentioned in an earlier post that you were playing VOBs with it, which requires the Cinema plugin, and just assumed you had both. You should not need anything to play either file with VLC; you might need ffdshow to play them on WMP but I wouldn't think so. I'll try the MEPG-4/AVI profile and post the results.

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings Thank you for the relpy. Please don't go to too much trouble with this. Yes, I only have the Cinema plug-in for the Archos 504. On both PC players I am getting a green vertical bar and a faint green/yellow offset dual image. The VLC seems to be the worse. I can always revert to a generic Xvid setting which plays OK on everything. |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings Hi wonder if you can help I have recently bought an Archos 705 WiFi and want to use DVDFAB to convert movies for this player but cannot see any Profiles for ths player. Can your profiles be altered to suit this player and if so can you give me some clues how to go about this. I have all the plugins and so I am not bothered which codec to use or file size just want best quality. Thanks for any help |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings @Private4587 If you want the best picture quality, use the H264 profile (the top one) in post #3 in this thread. Although it was made for the 504/604, it will work with your 705 with no problem if you have both plug-ins. You will need to install it using the Customize UI function. There are instructions for this in the DVDFab Tutorial (linked in my sig, "Official Guide"). The example in the tutorial is for AppleTV but the steps are exactly the same. First, download the profile to your profiles folder (Program Files->DVDFab 5->Profiles) and rename it, changing only the file suffix from .txt to .xml, then follow the steps in the Tutorial. I use the 480x270 screen size for my 504; you can try that but one of the larger ones may look better on the 705. Test it and see, and post again if you have problems or need more help. @Baz47 Sorry for not getting back to you. The Xvid+MP3 still works fine on mine and with VLC.

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings I am working on one now, but it will be H264. I will post it if it works OK and maybe do an xvid version as well. I believe Divx 7 uses H264.

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings Dreamliner Try this one and let me know how it works. It will require the Archos "Podcast" plugin. If you don't want to buy that, try the Xbox 360 profile that makes WMV/WMA files. It should play, but the conversions take longer (30-40%) than the one I am posting below. The Archos website reads like the Cinema plugin will play DVD files but I don't know if that means a VIDEO_TS folder with menus etc. or just MPEG-2 VOB files like my 504 (which you can make with the VOB Passthrough function). To install the new profile, download it to your Profiles folder and change the file suffix from txt to xml, then install the device using CustomizeUI-DVD to Mobile in Common Settings (detailed directions in the Tutorial, here: http://www.dvdfab.com/docs/index.php...ngsCustomizeUI . Scroll down to "Adding New Devices..." and follow the steps shown in the example for adding AppleTV, just choose your new device instead of the one in the example.

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings I have tried to movies with the following results: Image comes out very sharp, however during pans it appears to be a bit choppy. Both movies I tested had an aspect ratio of 2:35 to 1 and netted a resolution of 720 X 304 which is within the spec of the Archos 5 & 7(800 X 480). However the file size was substantially larger than what I expected. A 1 hour and 55 minute movie came in at 1,807,550 KB. I have to assume that is becuase the fix bit rate is at 2,000 kbps which might be a bit overkill for a 7" screen. If it is this high fixed bit rate, then the answer would be to find the lowest fixed bit rate that would retain the quality for a 7" screen yet lower the file size. Not really sure what to do about the choppy pans. The frame rate seems properly set at 23.976fps. The audio at 128kbs and volume at 150% seems to give a good sonic stereo performance for headphone play and leave you with plenty of volume control from the unit. |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings That is really not too large a file for that screen size. I make the ones for my 504 at 480x270 or 480x202 and they are often around 1.2GB for longer movies. As for the jerky pans, try some tests at different frame rates, like 29.97 or 30 and see if it looks any better (but that will make the files larger). You can try reducing the video bitrate with the slider, but try to keep the bits/pixel reading above .20. You may find that a smaller screen, like 640x270 will still look good on the Archos and will produce a smaller output file. Also, look at the files you made with Mediainfo (or similar) and see if the output framerate is really 23.97. The bumpy pans may be a deinterlace problem that can be tweaked in the profile.

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings I am using the same movie as a sample, just to keep thing consistent. It is a 1 hour 55 minute movie 2:35 aspect ratio. Original Set Up Fixed Bit Rate = 2000 kbps Resoulution = 720 X 304 Bits/Pixel = 0.381 Frame Rate 23.97 fps Final File Size = 1,807,550 KB Results = Good Image with Choppy Pans Adjusted Settings Fixed Bit Rate = 1375 kbps Resoulution = 720 X 304 Bits/Pixel = 0.21 Frame Rate 29.97 fps Final File Size = 1,291,349 KB Results = Good Image with Real Choppy Pans |

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings Have you tried the smaller screen size? You don't have to convert the whole movie, just a couple of chapters. What are you using to view this?

| Re: No Archos or DivX settings I forgot that I could select a chapter, but it really does not take my laptop very long to encoded. I have not tried a lower resolution, I just tried the lower bit rate. from my previous encodings I notice that changing the resolution did not affect the file size by that much. I am not so sure what to do about the choppy pans, 23.97fps was certainly better that 29.97 fps but both were choppier than I would like. I viewed them on my laptop using quicktime. |
