I Just installed DVDFab 6.0.2.2, and it won't start up at all. No error message or anything. I get an hour glass for about half a second or so and a small CPU spike, but that's it. I can see DVDFab.exe pop up under 'Processes' in task manager for a half second or so, but then it's gone. I've tried running from command line, it just immediately comes back with no error message.

I had DVDFab5 installed before. I uninstalled Fab5 before installing Fab6. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Fab6 a few times, being sure to reboot in between uninstalls and reinstalls.

I can't find any log file or any way of figuring out what's going on.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

have you tried running dvdfab in compatibility mode.

ive seen other users with the same problem, but to be honest i usually do not read the threads.

a search should bring up some good information.

Not knowing your operating system it sounds like you are running Vista Home Premium which if that is the case Troy is right you need to set the compatibility tab setting..i.e "Privilege Level" for DVDFab

Ack, I should have mentioned I'm running Windows XP professional.

I had no trouble with DVDFab5.

Does it behave this way if you start it with no discs in any optical drive?

i forgot that preview and pathplayer can cause the crash.

Yeah, it does it regardless of whether or not there is a DVD in the drive or not.

I'm also running under administrative privileges.

This is an unusual symptom, especially on XP. Preview-type crashes usually happen only after the analysis phase and do not generally happen with no discs in the drives. PathPlayer crashes happen earlier, but again not usually when there are no discs in the drives. It sounds like something more at the OS or system level closing it down, as some anti-virus/malware programs do when DVDFab checks for an update. Try disconnecting from the internet, disabling all anti-whatever software is running, and see if it will open with no discs in the drives. If it does, see if there is a way to make DVDFab and its executables ignored by your anti-x software. It also might be worth trying to install the newest release (6.0.3.0) on the chance that you have a corrupt install.

I actually don't run anti-virus. I've been working in IT long enough to know that as long as I don't use IE or Outlook and I don't try to execute every attachment I get by email, that an anti-virus won't do much more than slow down my system.

I tried disconnecting from the network, no change in behavior.

Everything else on my system works fine. DVDFab5 was working fine the day I upgraded to 6.

I'll download 6.0.3 and give it a shot.

Ok, where do I download 6.0.3.0? The latest I can find on the website is still 6.0.2.2

There is a link in the v6.0.3.0 release announcement thread here in the forum (near the top of the thread list) or you can always find the latest on this page in the Tutorial.

I have this exact same problem... I installed DVDFab 6.0.3.0 Beta (build 689?) the latest version, and same thing... click on the icon, and nothing happens.

It won't even start or anything. I'm running Windows Vista x64. Any ideas as to how to fix this, or even figure out what is wrong, or where the log files might be that will give some type of clue as to why it won't even execute or do much of anything?

Same problem here... the software just won't start. Click on the icon, it does nothing. Just like Irwinr said, if you click on the icon the process will start for less than a fraction of a second and immediately die. The software simply won't start. Are there any type of logs, that we can look at that might help give us a clue as to why the software is failing?

This is a problem. I am also experiencing it on an old alienware laptop running windows xp. I've no issues with dvdfab up until now.

I have lots of old installs of dvd fab. The problem occurs with both 6022 and the 6036 beta. If I uninstall dvd fab, start with 5220 and then install 6010 I re-get blu-ray support but if I try install either 6022 or the beta, it no longer works.

I am not running spyware/virus protection. I tried removing the requested dll from an earlier post. No dice.

If there is any diagnostic I can provide, let me know how. If this is not the right thread for this request, let me know where to discuss this topic.

I just installed 6.0.4.0 hoping it might fix it, it's still busted.

Can anyone provide any kind of troubleshooting help?

I re-installed my old version (5.2.3.2) and it starts up just fine. Something is clearly busted in the upgrade from version 5 to version 6.

I just went over all of your posts in this thread and didn't see where you stated if you are using the paid(registered) version or the free version, also if it is the paid version I didn't see where you stated that you requested the V6 reg key

I have a paid version of dvd mobile and blu-ray. This thing is broken. Not sure what the deal is but 6010 is the last version that works for me.

Open DVDFab and click on the question mark located on the titlebar in the upper right corner then select "About"...
what does it say for the expiration date ?

I have the exact same problem. The hour glass shows for about 1/2 second, then nothing. The last version I could use was 6.0.1.0. I am using XP pro on a computer that is not connected to the internet or a network. It's an old computer used only for back ups. I have been using the free versions of fab. This is a very strange problem. Nothing else has been added to this pc except the versions of dvdfab. Anybody got any ideas? I can load these version on other computers in my house and they work fine. They just won't work on this one. I have also tried all the things mentioned in this thread without any results.

StormJumper: There is no getting to the titlebar. Nothing comes up. It's just like 'guest21' says: you click on it, it get an momentary hourbar and then nothing. If you look at the task manager, dvdfab is not running. I just found it ironic that I paid for the blu-ray 'forever' key, downloaded the latest version and it doesn't work. Not my idea of forever.
