Increase encoding speed.

I am new to blu-ray and quad core's but I need opinions on how much memory is enough? I have 4 g of 1333mhz at present but can go up to 8g. When encoding I appear to be using about 1g of memory. My question is: would I decrease encoding time with the addition of more memory?

Re: Increase encoding speed.

if only 1 of 4 GB of memory are used during encoding, then it is very unlikely that adding more RAM will provide any additional speed gain.

Re: Increase encoding speed.

Video encoding times are more dependent on cpu speed, and whether or not the application makes full use of multiple cores.

Using separate hard drives, one for the input and one for output, is also recommended.
