I did pay for DVDFab Platinum, and I do expect it to do what is advertised. I am willing to do a little bit of extra work if I have to, but I shouldn't have to buy yet another product to do a job that DVDFab is supposed to already be doing. When looking at the IFO files last night, I did notice that DVDFab does change them, even in "Clone" mode. One of the IFO files I looked at actually had the movie title in plain text, but that seems to be uncommon and is not the determining factor. I'll look into the differences some more and see what else might be different besides the DVDFab branding. |

| Hi, I guess Clearplay determine the disc by using some checksum, so for Clone the checksum is same, and Clearplay recognize it without problem, for other copy mode, the checksum is changed, so Clearplay cannot work. it's not a problem of copy protection, it's just by design of Clearplay. Best Regards, Fengtao

| Infoman: in your post #7 you said that you use the cheapest DL media that you can find, well for one thing you will find is that some movies won't burn using cheap media plus down the road the cheap media that you are using will not play at all as they use very cheap dye, It has been recommended over and over in many forums in order to get good quality burns to use good media such as Verbatim DVD+R DL. but each to their own I guess, remember you get what you pay for. Also there is a blank media forum on here. Good Luck

![]() I will look up the blank media forum, though - I've actually had some trouble with some Sony DVD-Rs lately (which I use for backups when I don't intend to use Clearplay or when the DVD doesn't require a DL disc for a clone backup). |

| For what it's worth, I have found a Sony disc that DVDFab is unable to clone correctly, so what I said earlier about the jacket_p folder apparently was wrong. Also, a disc that only has a video_ts folder was cloned successfully with DVDFab, so that blows my theory in that area. Last edited by fengtao; 12-04-2008 at 04:12. |

| Hi infoman, New version of DVDFab will have an option "Copy Original IFO Files" in "Clone" mode, which will solve your problem in my option. Please be patient, the new version is almost ready. Best Regards, Fengtao

| The feature is in the current beta (5.0.1.2). You can download it from the link in this post . I'm sure the developers would be interested in your feedback.

| Unfortunately, the new feature doesn't make any difference. It still works on some but not on others. You get the same results whether you copy the original .IFO files or not. For example, I've noticed that Sony and WB discs work great, Disney (Enchantment, Underdog, National Treasure 2) discs do not. Besides those, here are some specific examples: Movies that have worked: Alvin & The Chipmunks, Across the Universe, I Am Legend, Robots, Juno Movies that do not work: Spiderwick, 10,000 B.C. , AVP: Reqiuem I could list more examples of both working and not working if needed, those are just the ones that came to mind. |

| I Just tried backing up Charlie Bartlett, and Charlie Wilsons war. I used DVD fab with keep the orginal ISO box checked. I used a DVD-R DL. Clearplay did not recognize it. Has anyone had success making a backup that works with a Clearplay DVD player? Last edited by fengtao; 28-07-2008 at 03:47. |

| Hi notheldge, If Clearplay discloses how it determines a DVD, DVDFab can try to be compatible with it. Best Regards, Fengtao

| Hi notheldge, The problem is: we need decrypt at least VOB files, or else the backup will not be played. There is no way to backup 100% same as original. We need know the algorithm of Clearplay so that we will see if it can be compatible. Best Regards, Fengtao

| I called customer support and one of the 'techy' guys told me it has something to do with the catalog numbers: http://clearplay.com/PrintList.aspx I'm sure there is more to i then that but.. I don't know.. |

| It looks like AnyDVD is using a hook in the Microsoft DLL call "IDvdInfo::GetDiscID" to make sure the copy has the same identifier. I'm guessing that AnyDVD is adjusting the files used to calculate the disc id so that the copy has the same value. Since AnyDVD created copies seam to work with Clearplay it is logical to assume that Clearplay uses the same algorithm to calculate the disc id as the Microsoft DLL. I'm not interested in Clearplay, but preserving the disc id would help in other applications that use it to look things up on-line. |
