OK I have DVD Fab Platinum and DVD Shrink 3.2 both installed on my computer. They were working perfectly but now whenever I play a DVD or CD on the computer it plays it in blocks and it sounds distorted or muffled. I have Windows XP SP2 and a Toshiba Satelite computer with an 11 function dvd recorder.
But here is the kicker, I thought that I had fried my laptop drive but my friends wife's computer is a HP Pavilion dv8000 and it after only a week does the same thing.
Both computers started malfunctioning shortly after installing DVD Fab. OH and Nero Ultra 6 is also installed on both computers. I am very confused any help will be of great appreciation.
Thanks Aaron

EDIT
It also will not record DVDs properly they are distorted when played on any other dvd player?

Installing DVDFab is not the cause of the malfunction,
what are the spec's of the computer ?, also when was the last time you did a system clean up..like disc clean up ..disc defag and a registry clean up

You are going to have to be specific as far as specs, its got an intel celeron M processor, ATi graphics card, 80 gig HD and a multi function dvd burner, plus 512 RAM.
And as far as clean ups go I have never done one. I actually thought that they moved stuff around and made things not work properly. But then again I am not extremely knowlegable. I know just enough to get into trouble.
Thanks for the help.

Clean-up / Defrag puts things ( Files ) together.
512 ram is not much power so to speak.
Nero has been known to conflict with DVDFab and other programs, make sure it is not trying to run in the background while running DVDFab.

First do the following
click on the start button on the taskbar go to All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools, you will see Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.
run both programs starting with the Disk Cleanup (Delete all that it finds)...then run the Disk Defragmenter (Note..since you have never done a defrag before it may take a few hours to complete)

another thing 80 gigs may sound like a lot of space BUT after you have installed many programs and save this file that file or what ever the free space drops fast and when saving movies it drops even faster.
you need at least 10% of hard drive space at all time for the system to operate the way it needs to, if you drop below that at any time you will getting system errors or system crashing or even both.

It is also a good idea to run a registry cleaner at least once a monthdue to Spyware and uninvited clutter in your Windows Registry

and like bean said 512mb of Ram is not much since the operating system uses some of that for cache so may think about installing more if your motherboard permites

Thanks, but so far on the hp I have done the disc and defrag and no change can be seen. Still distorts or double plays the picture and sound almost frame by frame. I dont know much about registry cleaners where can I get one for free? And will that do it? Or will I have to unistall nero to get it to work?

And another important thing, it has to do something wiht the dvd drive drivers becuase if I have a movie on the computer it plays fine, but if its in the drive it or a cd has distorted playback. Weird?

If it helps I have a Toshiba satelite m45-s169 and it has a diagnostic system that I am going to run just as soon as the defrag is done.

is this the same defrag you said you did in post #9 if so that is about 3 hours or so your system must have really fragmented.
from what you have said
"distorted playback when playing from a CD or DVD" but not from a file on your computer..it sounds like your drive is on it's last leg..does this happen on any drive you use or is it limited to just that drive, when was the last time you cleaned the lens.
also how many programs do you have that run in the background..to many programs running in the background and doing a backup really sucks the life out of the CPU.

another thing like to know your drives are they connected with a 40 wire IDE cable or 80 wire IDE cable...80 wire is better to use because it gives you better trnsfer of data,

As StormJumper says sounds like the Lens needs cleaning or the drive itself is on it'e last leg.

Sorry superman63086,
As Fengtao says, "...MatSHITa ..." drives are crap.
Please don't take this personally. Unfortunately, these drives are pretty common in many laptops like Toshiba, Dell...

I hate to suggest this, but assuming you wish to continue to archive your flicks...you'd do well do buy either an external drive or toss an internal into an ext case. This'll be much cheaper than trying to replace the "el crappo" Matshita. Besides being lousy drives, Matshita is extremely proprietary and firmware support is next to non-existent.

Sorry...don't shoot the messenger...

Actually I aplaud the messenger becuase I would prefer to be forewarned before trying to gut my laptop and perform emergency surgery. I love my computer but something told me that it was the drive, just an instinct. However, I am still confused as to why the HP has befallen the same fate? I will get the full specs on it and send them that way. Thanks

The toshiba is 5 years old and just started acting up, but the HP is only 2 years old? Hopefully there is something else wrong.

No I dont have a portable drive and both the computers are laptops so they only have one. But I may try to get one. Sometimes computers just frustrate me. But I am joining the long-term band wagon with that one.

Well as far as the bandwagon goes just remember to hold on it gets bumpy sometimes ...and do try another drive when ever you can it may be the problem

The drive may still be part of the problem but my money is on nero not playing nice. Possible updates started it misbahavin.
It is on both machines.

I know some people love the program and have no problems what so ever with it, but I have seen it interfer with other programs as far as burning goes.
