Have updated to latest version of DVDFab Platinum (v3.1.1.0 Beta) and have found a new bug that has ONLY just appeared in THIS version...

I always test new versions of DVDFab Platinum by doing a generic xvid+mp3 encode of the Battlestar Galactica pilot episode (before the main tv series)... I rip the main movie from dvd to my HD, so i have the VOB's ready to encode...

The episode is 2 hours 54 mins long, and when i try to encode it to xvid+mp3 it always encodes a corrupted file if i set the video bit rate to anything above 1370 (have tested from 1300-1400)... By corrupted i mean, it won't play in WMP11 or PowerDVD or VLC.. Even VirtualDub says the file is corrupt and can't detect the codec required to process it...

I always like to do generic xvid+mp3 @ 1600 video bit rate (i know thats large, but it gives me the quality that i desire) and this has always worked in previous versions, although you still get the sound problem when fast forwarding (but that is being fixed, so not too worried atm), but now it would seem, that in the latest version, it wont encode without giving a corrrupt file at the same settings as i've always used before...

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is it something to do with the fact that the encoded file is over 2Gb in size, although this has never been a problem with previous versions? I only wonder as in verions 3.1.x.x prior to the latest version, the encoding was VERY slow, and in v3.1.1.0 Beta, the encoding has been speeded up again to how it was, but now, i can't encode without getting a corrupt file (despite DVDFab completing 100%)...

Sorry about the long post, if you need any more info on the problem, just ask, i can give more details...

Sorry you're having trouble. Ting was in the forum last night (USA time) and may be back again today and hopefully will see your post. In the meantime, I can offer only a few suggestions based on my limited experience with these modes. First, if you don't already have it, download ffdshow. It worked well with pre-3.1.0.x Fab AVIs and even allowed me to use the slider in WMP without audio loss (but VLC always seemed to work better). It might help Ting if you could download Yamb (if you don't have it) and post what it says about the video stream in your file. There is a link to the download site in the "Making MP3s" link in my sig. That is a pretty high bit rate but I've done some tests of short segments that high and higher (but with the older versions). Good luck with it.

Have latest ffdshow installed... This problem has only appeared in DVDFab Platinum v3.1.1.0 Beta, i always encode xvid+mp3 @ 1600, so not sure why its giving corrupt files now (on long movies at high bit rates)...

Like i said before, i always encode @ 1600 (video) and never caused a problem, i encoded Firefly episode 1, about 1hr 30mins, and that works fine, but Battlestar Galactica pilot episode, 2hr 54min, gives me a corrupt file @ 1600, the only way i can get it to work, is to set it to LESS than 1370 bit rate (video)... This has NEVER been a problem before DVDFab Platinum v3.1.1.0 Beta...

Downloading Yamb v1.6 now, will post back with results later if i can work out how to use it (never used it b4)...

Post if you need hints. You basically just click on the "input" button. There is a screen capture in the MP3 link that shows you what it looks like. If you click the 'Informations" button I think it will copy all the data to notepad for EZ posting. Have you tried leaving the bit rate high but only encoding about half the movie (using the chapter selection windows)? Might be interesting to see if it is a file size issue.

I don't think its a bit rate problem, a i can do Firefly which is 1hr 30mins @ 1600 and it works fine, its well below 2Gb...

Will try any suggestions that you throw at me, but its 2:30am here in the UK, so will re-encode Battlestar Galactica (whilst i sleep) and test Yamb on it in the morning...

If yourself or Fengtao/Ting need any more info, i'll post what i can...

Tried using Yamb v1.16, but when i loaded the encoded file, it crashed Yamb...

One thing i have noticed is although the file size is over 2Gb, it is smaller than it should be... In previous versions of DVDFab, the file was always 2.3Gb after encoding, but in v3.1.1.0 Beta its only 2.1Gb, despite DVDFab predicting the output should be around the 2.3Gb mark...

Not sure if this helps, but the error has only appeared since the xvid+mp3 encoding was speeded up in this version...

Look forward to any updates on this problem... Thx Fengtao/Ting...

Try the new v3.1.1.2, some of the fixes may be what you need. Post the results when you can. Can't believe Yamb choked on the file. Wow.
