DVDFab Platinum has problems with CSS

DVDFab / DVD Region+CSS Free Discuss, DVDFab Platinum has problems with CSS at Movie copy software forum; I just purchased DVD Fab Platinum, thinking that would be all I need to backup my DVD's. I tried it, and it had problems with CCS. I downloaded DVD Fab Decrypter, and that resolved the CCS issue. Why isn't their decrypter included in the Platinum package I just paid $49

Also, shouldn't I be able to make backups directly with DVD Fab Platinum? Or do I need to use Nero (which I already have installed). Any advice is appreciated.

It should do all that indeed. You have free lifetime support worldwide, so better use it

No you did not get screwed it sounds like maybe you have your settings messed up as DVDFAB Platinum will will do it all , decypt, shrink and burn. No you don't need anything else such as Nero or any other software to shrink or burn your backups as DVDFAB will do it all. If you have any other issues or need help with the program I would go to the DVDFAB Forum for help IMO

I have used DVDFab a ton of times and it has not failed me once, even with new movies that have much more on it than CSS. Click on the "gear" up in the right corner which is common settings, click on the common settings drop down and then in the "write" part of the GUI go to copy protections and make sure that literally everything is checkmarked because then it can defeat those copy protections.

Good luck!!!

Hi seansea and welcome to cdfreaks.

It sounds as though you inadvertantly downloaded the non-css version of Fab. There are non-css versions hosted by Fengtao as the result of legal issues with the big boys....eg., (http://www.dvdfab.net/download.htm)

Download the css version from Fengtao's home site right here:
http://www.dvdfab.com/download.htm
The default settings are probably what you want...easy enough to check in Common settings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks maineman, jpnski, Jimbo, and Mr. Belvedere!

I'm going to check through the DVDFAB Forum, and I downloaded the CSS version of the app just in case I did download the wrong one. I'll let you guys know the results soon!

The css version did the trick! I just did a test by backing up Layer Cake and it did it all in 30 minutes! For some reason when I first downloaded Platinum, copies would take over 2 hours. Thanks for all your help! This is a great forum!

Hello,
I'm having the same CSS problems w/the 5.0.0.0 version that I purchased from the dvdfab site directly last month. I don't recall seeing the 2 versions, non-css and css but I bought the non-css and have had nothing but problems copying movies now. Am I out my $49 or can I uninstall the "bad" version I have and install the css version I need without paying anything more? If so, how do I do this? Ironically, I had no problems copying any movie when I had the trial version

Also, I checked my common settings and I do not have a gui option under the "write" setting.

Hi Angel_Heart and welcome,

No, you're not out any $. You actually bought the css version. It sounds as if you downloaded and installed the "wrong" application, not once, but twice.
Stay with me on this, it'll be ok.

First off, save your registration key and stash it somwhere that's safe...a floppy, a cd, a slave hdd, etc. It's also a good idea to email it to yourself so it stays on an outside server like gmail, yahoo, etc.

Uninstall the Fab application that you have. I think you have installed not only the non-css version, but I think that somehow you may have installed the freeware version also...DVDFab HD Decrypter.

There are only 2 authorized sites to download the css versions.
DVDFab.com
...this site has the latest final release versions of Platinum, Gold, Fab Decrypter and DVD to Mobile.

Right here on cdf's Fab subforum,
...here you can download the final release versions and also any Beta versions. They're available as stickies at or near the top of the page.
For eg.,
DVDFab 5.1.1.8 Beta is out

Now here's what happened.
You went to Fab.com and as you clicked on Buy Now, the link took you to DVDFab.net, which is where you actually have to make the purchase.
Problem is, Fab.net is also the host site for the non-css versions.

Fengtao needs to fix this since it's confusing for folks...plenty of ppl have made the same mistake.
Also, I think you may have installed the freeware version since it has no burn engine and no utility to access one.
As you said, the trial version of Platinum that you had worked just fine.
BTW, your initial trial version is identical to the version that owners of Platinum install. The only difference is the reg key. You actually could have just double clicked on the email attachment and it would have activated your registration with the version you already had.

Thank you so much Main for your help. I did what you suggested and it's now working fine. I tested it on Blood Diamond and there weren't any problems unlike before. I was able to update the version to the 5.1.1.8 but it doesn't state that it's css even tho I now have region options. It's working now and that's what's important.

Thanks again, you guys are the best

Nice work, maineman

I've moved this thread to the DVD Fab forum here, for the software authors to pick up on.

Glad to hear you're up and running.
Yeah, I think you're right about it not stating it's the css version, but if you open Common Settings > DVD > Protection, you should see all your setting options including Remove CSS...

Anyway, nicely done

Thank you & maineman so much!
I have the correct version now.
It works fine!
