DVDFab Platinum 3 Beta

Dear All,

Lots of problems with first beta version on Win98se machine. Program installed ok but when I tried to select split or customize option my pc crashed and I had to reboot. I finally was able to try the disk copy option but received a read error immediately. I understand my pc is old, but I should not have problems like this.

Just tested the new Beta 2. All the problems I had with Beta 1 seem to be gone.

Just tried DVDFab Platinum 3 Beta. First impression: Very nice!

One question:
DVDFab Platinum Beta 3 uses avcodec.dll, which is licensed under the GPL.

To check, just open avcodec.dll with a hex editor, and you'll see things like:
"This software is derived from the GNU GPL XviD codec (1.1.0).
Your software distributor has to give access to its source code"

Neither the License.txt, nor the readme.txt mention the GPL.

As DVDFabPlatinum is linked against avcodec.dll, it should be published under the GPL as well, shouldn't it?

Just tryied the new beta 2 and when I go into select a source or destination drive, although I can see the drive and the description through the select screen, once I select it only the drive letter shows up and I get the error below in the attached image when I click the start button.

At this point I have a movie in one drive and a blank disc in the other. ---- The previous beta worked at this point.

Just tried beta 3 - did not have the problem noted in the previous post - or any other problems!! Great work.

WOW! This software looks great!

I wonder how come it recognizes all my drives as the source except my Plextor 760A. Works with the old Fab express but not this new beta, go figure.

Fengtao, my take so far on 3beta2 - excellent work! Fixed a couple of bugs on initial 2 beta's. backups of new releases scary movie 4 and RV, full disc to dvd5, excellent video quality on 51 inch screen....navigation of disc structure, perfect. Very surprised with the viewing quality has % quality at time of rip very low (63 and I think 53%). Thanks for all your continued efforts!!

fengtao, brilliant is the only word I have to discribe fab3 beta 2 just did two playstation2 game backups and they work perfectly guess as soon as the retail version comes out I will be able to delete the other nine programs i use yours will take the place of all of them!!!!! dawg

I have had a problem selecting drives but check out the image below. I can only select a drive from the drop down menu. I cannot select a drive via the small windows browser window.

bubbles19, the problem will be fixed in beta3.

rogman49, we will do more test on windows 98, please be patient.

alan1476, the source will only list the drive which contains DVD media. Also, if you are in "Full Disc" mode, it will only list the drive which contains DVD-Video media.

Will the next beta have a new license agreement?
Will you release the source code of DVDFab Platinum 3?

Hi, I have just been testing the Platinum 3 Beta. It looks great! No more purple!!
However it does not seem to recognise nero as the Burn engine? I had to manually burn the temp files with nero. There is also a small problem when ripping just the main movie to hard drive. It always shrinks! In Fab Gold this is not the case.
Anyway great program, and I`m looking forward to the final release.

Bollux, I'll test Nero asap. Also, for Main Movie copy, you can choose "DVD-9" as output, the quality will be 100%, so that it will not shrink.

The problem I am having is quite unique. The program detects all my drives except the Plextor 760A. But the other beta 3- 2.9.8.5 detects the Plextor and all my other drive with no problems. I am wondering if having both programs on the HD together are having an effect. The source dropdown box is empty when the Plextor is the Source drive, but if I choose one of my other drives it immediately detects it and scans the disc.

I wondered the same thing and uninstalled 2.9.8.5 last night but still the same results.

My problems are only with the Source and only when the Plextor 760A is chosen. This is not the case with the other Platnium betas.

alan1476, could you please try to click the "..." browse button right to the source combo, and select the VIDEO_TS folder of DVD drive Plextor 760A, to see the result?

BTW, version 2.x and 3.x can coexist.

I already did that and it posts an error that I will post a screenshot of: This is with the Source disc in the drive and also when trying to select drive G as the source nothing happens, as I have said this is not the case with my other drives and the othe DVD Fab products

I had the same problem with both drives set on CS. I changed drives to master and slave on a 80 wirw cable. I went to device manger and deleted secondary ide channel drivers and both drives. Rebooted and let Windows find and reinstall drivers. Since then no problem. Sometimes drivers get corrupted. Also uninstalled the 2.9 versions and other burning applications.

The first time I tried to burn a disk with beta 3-2 the source drive and disk came up correctly but the same drive was not listed in the destination options. I tried the (...) selecting the drive but that did not work (error creating temp file). I then shut down the DVDFAB program - started it again and all was fine!! Go figure! Also have version 2 loaded.

Alan if you put the movie in the BenQ, will it recognize the source? I have a BenQ writer and LG ROM. It would recognize the BenQ but not the LG. I could put movie in The BenQ and Fab recognized the drive as the source and target. I could even copy a movie that way. Both drives showed up in the device manager and source would allow me to choose the LG drive but the drive would not be recognized as having a DVD in it. I was about ready to replace the LG with a new BenQ that I have for spare. I have Vcon System Suite 6 so I ran a diagnostic test of HW and found that the LG would recognize CD media, but tests on DVD media came up with errors. I have both DVD drives on same controller because neither will be in use at the same time because Fab copies to Temp file on HD then Writes from HD to Burner.
