DVDFab / DVD Region+CSS Free Discuss, DVDFab Platinum 3.1.0.5 Beta didn't finalize properly at Movie copy software forum; I "cloned" two discs with DVDFab Platinum 3.0.1.5 Beta, using the VSO burning engine, and everything seemed to be going fine, as usual, and DVDFab ejected the disc and reported success in both cases. My player can't read them though; the "spinning disc" indicator just keeps running. It does play

I "cloned" two discs with DVDFab Platinum 3.0.1.5 Beta, using the VSO burning engine, and everything seemed to be going fine, as usual, and DVDFab ejected the disc and reported success in both cases. My player can't read them though; the "spinning disc" indicator just keeps running. It does play the originals just fine.

Checking the copies with Nero's CDSpeed shows both as open, not finalized. The burn log shoes that the finalization time was 4 seconds in both cases. I didn't notice whether DVDFab ever showed the "Finalizing..." message; I just figured that when it ejected the discs and reported success, everything was okay. I am able to play these discs on the PC using VLC media player.

I never did get around to using 3.1.0.0 Beta, so I uninstalled 3.0.1.5 Beta and re-installed 3.0.9.8, and then cloned one of the discs from the temporary files still on my HD, this time successfully. CDSpeed shows it as being finalized, and the burn log says that the finalization time was 3 minutes, 22 seconds, and it plays in my player.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

I suppose that it could be a problem with the download or installation of 3.0.1.5 Beta, or that the Nero burn engine would work, but I'm reluctant to waste blank discs troubleshooting what may be a known problem.

Another question, is there any way to finalize those two discs that have already been written but not finalized?

Regards,
James

Hi James try these settings in common settings
Write Type of DVD-R Media....SAO Writing
DVD Writable Media (DVD-5) Size....4464 (use customize in drop down )
Set Booktype to DVD-ROM....(put a check in the small box)

Those two disc you can close them using DVD Decrypter

Hi James, try this to finalize those other discs;
Right click the Fab icon, then select find target. Open the patin-couffin driver VSO software folder> then click on the plus sign for patin-couffin driver>then select the drive with the disc inserted that you wish to finalize >then right click that drive and select finalize from the list.

yes that would be correct right click the fab icon and find target and open up the patin-couffin and you can finalize any media works great and saves from ever having a coaster.

StormJumper:

Thanks, but those are the settings that I used (those are my "normal" settings). Since these are DL discs, I rather doubt that the DVD-5 write setting would make any difference.

Thanks for the suggestion on DVD Decrypter, I'll look for that and try to use it to close those discs.

rolling56:

Thanks for the correction. I meant to write "3.1.0.5", but apparently I got it wrong (several times!). I'd edit it if I could, but I think that it's too late now, and my mistakes will be there indefinitely for posterity to see.

HDFATBOY:

Thanks, but "Right click the Fab icon..."? Do you mean the DVDFab icon in Windows Explorer or on the desktop? If I right-click on those, I just get my normal context menus, which don't include any "find target" option. Perhaps you mean something else and I just don't understand?

James

Okay, I think that I see what you mean now. Eventually I get to a window that includes PcSetup.exe

I've already run that. It gives me a window labelled "Access layer test and configuration", with "+Patin-Couffin driver". Clicking the + sign shows my DVD and CD drives, and if I select the DVD drive and right-click it, then I have an option "UnFreeze/Finalize media", and when I click that, it eventually give me a message labelled "Patin-couffin setup" that tells me "Your drive seems to be reactive now." (whatever that means...) and an OK button. Unfortunately, it doesn't finalize the disc.

James

Which version of DVDFab Platinum are you trying? 3.0.9.8? 3.1.0.0 beta? 3.1.0.5 beta? Some other version?

Does DVDFab "freeze" in the "Finalizing..." stage, or does it report success and the discs just aren't actually finalized?

Did you change anything particular on your PC between it working and not working? Applications or drivers installed, uninstalled, or updated? Any hardware changes?

James

I tried closing those discs with both DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn, Tools -> Drive -> Close -> Disc, but it didn't seem to have any effect at all; it didn't even make the light on the DVD drive flash, and the disc information still shows "Status: Incomplete". I guess that I have a couple of coasters.

I think that I'll stick with 3.0.9.8 until I hear of a fix.

James

Hi,

I am Fabrice from VSO Software, to check the issues, we need the details of the hardware you are using. for that, if you kindly could use this little tool

http://download.vso-software.fr/vsorep.exe

or send the log where we will see the burner model, firmware and also media used ( the exact brand model such as ritek_g05 for example )

Thanks for the response. I couldn't include the entire burn log in the report tool (only 800 characters allowed), so I copied and pasted everything that I thought might be relevant, and sent the report.

Ken, from technical support at VSO-Software, has e-mailed me that he's been able to reproduce my problem and that the DEV team has been sent the details.

Being that it's a reproducible problem, I expect that they'll be able to track down the cause and develop a fix, which I'll hope to see incorporated into a future release of DVDFab.

Or possibly, if it turns out to be something peculiar to my PC's hardware / OS / software set-up, tell me how to correct or work around my problem.

James

Not a problem; I assume that none of the "regulars" have exactly my configuration, and that they weren't experiencing this problem.

For now, if any reader does experience the same problem that I did, my best advice is to revert to version 3.0.9.8 until he reads that the problem has been fixed.

James

Please post it here, even if it is machine- or setup-specific, as it may help someone else lurking and looking for a solution. You could not be in better hands than Ken and the Cust. Support staff at VSO. They are the best

Of course; if I learn of anything that helps with this problem, then I'll certainly post it here to help anyone else who happens to have the same problem.

By the way, Ken did write that I should be able to finalize those discs by using ImgBurn to first close the track and then to close the disc.

That didn't work for me, but perhaps that's because I first tried other methods to finalize the discs; perhaps those other methods wrote something on the discs that prevented it from working? Oh well, at least I can still play those discs on my PC using the VLC media player, and perhaps some stand-alone DVD players will play unfinalized discs.

For anyone who has an unfinalized disc, maybe follow Ken's advice and with ImgBurn, first use Tools > Drive > Close > Track and then Tools > Drive > Close > Disc to try to finalize it.

Regards,
James
