I have found that my split discs will play just fine in a PC, an X-Box, & in a Lite-On 5045 HDD-DVD recorder. But they will not play in any standalone DVD player that I have tried. (Before ver 4, no problems in any player.)

There is something that the standalones can't recognize, perhaps, preventing play, whereas the more sophisticated computer oriented players can handle the files - at least in my case.

Roadking - did you try playing your discs in a PC?

Roadking - how did you try this? Directly from the disc, or from a HD folder?
What was the exact process that you used? How did it not work? Just curious.

Is Customize working OK for you otherwise? (Say on a DVD5 size copy? Maybe try copying an under 4300 KB DVD, if you have one.) If that works, it's puzzling that you can't make 2 discs from your original DVD using Customize, putting half the chapers on one disc, and the other half on the second disc.

ok i wasnt aware that this thread was dealing with hidef rips. i cant be for certain but i think the dvdfab platinum we use is just for normal dvd's and the hd decrypter is for hidef. i may be wrong but why else would there be a hd decrypter if fab plat works for both? unless of course we are talking about watching regular dvd's on a highdef system. which of course i would have to ask, why bother buying a highdef system if youre just gonna watch regular dvds on it?

Well, I'm definitely talking about regular DVD's.

I thought that Roadking was, also.

I would guess that folks have HDTV's, but aren't buying HD DVD's yet?

One thing I thought of - everyone having trouble seems to have encountered this problem around the time DVD FAB PLAT 4 came out.

When I installed DVD FAB 4, I left everything as default, but it installed DVD FAB 4 in a different folder on drive C. It apparently didn't install over DVD FAB 3. So I still have both programs listed in my program menu - DVD FAB 3 & 4 - I can open either one & use it. I also have a folder for each in my Program Files folder on drive C. I read in other threads that this happened to several other folks, also.

Could this be causing problems?

So to get rid of 3, can I first try just uninstalling 3, or could that possibly delete files I need for 4? That would be the easiest way to go. Or is it necessary to uninstall both, & then reinstall 4?

Thanks for any help!

id uninstall both then reinstall the latest just to be sure.

well im not much into the high def thing so as far as i know you can only play a high def disk in a high def player and you can only watch the high def disk thats playing in your high def dvd player...on a high def tv. which is why im not switching to high def. im just now switching from vhs to dvd so (lol) im not about to go and rebuy everything. im quite happy with dvd.

anyway, if for some reason you still cant figure out how to get the movies to split, you may want to pick up some rewriteable dvd's.

Sorry, but had to get some sleep last night in preparation of returning to work after 2 weeks vacation. What a downer!!!!! New Years resolution #1...retire :-)

pythonis - regarding High Def vs Standard Def DVDs, I am definitely talking about ripping and burning standard def dvds. The few high def disks I have (so far) are Blu-Ray format and play on my PS3 (which also plays and upconverts standard def dvds). The Sony DVD player does a pretty good job of upconverting standard def dvds for viewing on my HD TV.

Janine - I am almost 100% sure I did the custom split from a dvd, but then again, I wouldn't swear to it in a court of law. I never really had need for using the Customize feature of DVDFab in the past, as up until mid-September'ish all my standard splits worked fine - prior to the upgrade to DVDFab V4. I did, however, try a title that I split and burned (with DVDFab V3) in late August and it worked fine on all 3 of my DVD players.

I have yet to try viewing a known problem split on my PC, but will tonight and report back. It is funny that your splits won't play on a standalone DVD player, whereas mine will ONLY PLAY on a standalone DVD player? Anything with some intelligence - like my PS3 and my Panasonic HDD-DVD recorder - won't play them.

I fully uninstalled DVDFab V3 before installing V4.

fengtao - I will install 4.0.3.6 beta first thing tonight and try a standard split and report back. I have my fingers crossed!

Glad this issue has gotten some focused attention. Like Janine, thanks to everyone for their input and suggestions.

Regards...

ok i went back and tried the split backup of my roommate's potc 3. wouldnt work when i hit the play feature. just like what was described at the start of this thread. anyway, i noticed that the diff was that on my roommate's copy the pathplayer was turned on. my backup copy the pathplayer was off. wonder if that could be the problem. of course thats just so far with potc 3.

ok installed the latest update. havent ripped any movies yet but did notice one thing. x-men 3 failed to load up in both of my drives (pathplayer enabled). i have a sony and a lite-on. i hardly ever turn the p/p on but was testing the split feature and just stuck in a random disk. all others ive checked are loading up ok except this one. anyone else able to try loading up xmen 3 with p/p enabled? would like to know if others have this problem. it may be more than just the one movie.

I was going through my dvds that 'stopped' working to make sure I knew exactly which ones I needed to re-rip and discovered that my problem may be more related to which DVD player I played them on than the actual dvds being played.

When I first discovered the problem near the end of November, I had my PS3 hooked up to my Sony HD tv and my Panasonic DMR-EH50 DVD Recorder hooked up to my SD tv in the basement. It was on both these 'players' that I first encountered my split problem. I also have a Sony DVP-NS75H upconverting dvd player which was NOT connected to my Sony HD tv at that time, as I was waiting for the arrival of my XtremeMac XtremeHD 4-port HDMI switch (I only have 2 HDMI jacks on the back of my tv which were being consumed by the PS3 and my HD Satellite PRV). Having received the switch, I now have my Sony DVP connected to my tv. That switch works great by the way, just in case anyone was wondering.

When I was going through my problem dvds this morning, I played them on the Sony DVP and low and behold they worked! I retested some of them on my PS3 and the Panasonic and as was the case in November they failed to play.

I need to do a bit more experimenting, but thought I would report my initial findings.

RoadKing49, very interesting observation.

I just finished doing a split of Silent Hill after loading 4.03.6 beta (and rebooting for good measure). Nothing fancy, just split the dvd onto 2 dvds. I selected not to duplicate the menus on Disk 2 and I disabled PathPlayer. Unfortunately, same results as before. Dvds play on my Sony dvd player, but I can't get past the main menu on either my PS3 or the Panasonic HDD DVD recorder. I also tried it on my PC using both WMP 11 and Nero Show Time. In both cases it was choppy as hell - the dvd seeking constantly - to the point that it was unwatchable.

I put The Lake House - which was an August split - into my PC and under both of the aforementioned apps, it played flawlessly.

I'll load DVDFab onto my wife's PC and try Silent Hill again - just to rule out a bad dvd burner on my PC (which is a Sony DRU 820-A).

Should we stop posting in this thread about the split problem & continue this discussion in the DVDFab 4.0.3.6 Beta thread, as this problem appears to be the main reason for the update?

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/dvdfab...6-beta-235340/

Just thought it might be easier if all the info was in one place - especially for the software authors who are trying to sort this out.

I'm going to continue my posts over there, unless someone suggests differently.

Thanks everyone!
