First & formost, let me start by saying how impressed and user-friendly i found DVDFab to be. After downloading the program and using the trial version for the first thirty days, i paid for the key without hesitation, and have enjoyed the last few months of copying DVD’s without problems.

About two weeks ago, i came upon a wierd problem.

Out of the blue, during the writing exercise, it came up error 116. OK, might be a dud disc. Never had one before, but been told it does happen. Input another disc, between 10-15% of writing the disc, same thing happens.

Hmm...Could require updated program i convinced myself. Downloaded 4.0.5.0 version, and install it. Same thing happens.

OK..Possible corrupted program. Complete uninstall. After uninstalling program, downloaded later version (4.0.5.5), and installed.

Same again.....Further investigation required.

Re-read tutorial and then forum, gaining some very helpful hints along the way, including the “how to uninstall properly”, and cleaning the registry. I then uninstalled the program, and deleted anything to do with DVDFab from the computer, then cleaned the registry. After installing the latest version again (4.0.6.0), i tried it again.

Same thing.....

For the whole time of using DVDFab we have been using LG branded 1-16x 4.7GB printable DVD-R’s, costing about AUD$0.30 per disc. These have worked very well in the past, and i have over a fiftey copies to prove it. Reaching for anything now, i went out and purchased some more expensive DVD-R’s being MagMedia 1-16x 4.7GB priced at AUD$1.00 each.

In they went, and away they went, writing to the end of its course.

HOORAY!!...said I. .....Unitill i tried to play it on three separate branded DVD players, each one stating that it had a “bad disc”. This was done a few times using separate movies to copy, and always came out the same.

Now cannot recall for sure, but am reasonably certain no other new programs were installed at the time, and the copying format works like a treat.

Am now at my wits end, and would appreciate any recommendations from someone else who is more computer literate than I.....Please find following copy of the log.

Start by using some decent media like Verbatim or taiyo Yuden, not Media ID: CMC MAG. AM3. Please use a normal font when posting, its the forum standard. Thankyou.

Hi, Bldhnd71 and welcome to cdfreaks,

Yup, as Alan said, this is more than likely a media problem...use some quality media like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

Also recommend the following:
Common Settings > DVD > Write > Write Type of DVD-R Media
Change from Packet Writing to SAO

You poor fellow. You paid $1 a disk for CMCs?!!! That's highway robbery. Get some Verbs or Taiyo Yudens as said above.

Try www.pcx.com.au - they're good folks.

Alan, Main, & Bluey,

Thanks all for your advice...I'll certainly try to useother media.

Attamepted to change the Write Type of Media to SAO, with media i have , and no difference.

Also tried after defraging disk, but still no differnece.

Just can't understand why it changed without warning, with no standard fix??

SAO won't help you. You need better media. Make sure your firmware is up to date, too and your DMA is on on all IDE channels.

Tried tha same movies as per previous, and by crikey, the little buggers worked.

I don't understand it, and its got me buggered, but it works. All five different movies came out spot on.

Thanks for all your help ppl.

Troy,

I'm pretty certain those were the MagMedia DVD-R's

Thanks for the link. Its got me a bit concerned now though, as i have that type of cd/dvd burner, but the Acer notebook is a model 5620, so hopefully all is ok.

But something to keep mindfull of though.

Thanks for the tip!!
