Fengtao Software has been kind enough to send me a full copy
of the latest version 9 of their popular DVDFab DVD Copy package for review. For
many people Fengtao Software will need no introduction, having been one of the most
widely known movie copy software producers for some years now, and Myce members
are even more likely to be familiar with their DVDFab package through our own DVDFab forum. The latest version of
DVDFab DVD Copy represents a major revamp from version 8, and we will be
bringing you completely up to date with the new look further on in this Myce exclusive
review.

Fengtao Software Incorporated

Fengtao Software Incorporated is most famous for their

Program Features

DVDFab's DVD Copy module offers
various different functions including: 'Full Disc', 'Main Movie', 'Customize', 'Split',
'Merge', 'Burn', and 'Clone', which carry out following functions.

  • Full Disc: Copies the entire contents of a DVD, with the
option to compress to fit a DVD-5 single layer disc.
  • Main Movie: Copies the main movie only, without all the
extras, and with or without menus.
  • Customize: Creates a custom version of a particular DVD with
just the titles, audio, and subtitles you require, with or without menus.
  • Split: Splits a DVD-9 by title, and or chapter, to two
DVD-5 discs with 100% quality, and can retain the original menus on both
    discs.
  • Merge: Creates compilation DVDs with titles from
multiple sources combined into one DVD. Can also merge two DVD-9s and
    compress to one DVD-9.
  • Burn: Writes a DVD fileset or an ISO image to DVD, but
can also produce an ISO image from a DVD fileset.
  • Clone: This is an unusual option for a movie copy
program which makes a 1:1 bit-to-bit copy of the original DVD.

Software Versions

The DVDFab programming team
is constantly tweaking and improving the program and in fact DVDFab received
minor upgrades on six occasions during the course of this review. So firstly,
I'd like to say something regarding the graphics appearing in this review. Although
there are several version numbers shown on various graphics, throughout the
review, all the screen dumps and test result screens were updated to correspond
with latest version of DVDFab. All graphics are therefore representative of the
latest available version at the time of publication regardless of the actual
version number shown.

Software Installation

All DVDFab's products are available as downloads so there's
no packaging and the various programs are therefore obtainable online from
their website. DVDFab DVD Copy
is the DVD processing part of DVDFab's All-In-One suite and consists of a
downloadable executable installation file. Although it contains the full All-In-One
suite of programs, the downloaded installation file is not excessively large by
modern standards, with the current version weighing in at just under 38 MB. So
let's have a look now at the actual installation process.

When run, the installer prompts for choice of language via a
drop down menu then launches familiar looking installation routines as shown below.

Having accepted the standard Licence Agreement you are then
offered the chance to specify the installation directory name and location as
shown below.

Next you're asked to choose a name and location for the
Start Menu folder.

You're then offered the opportunity to create a desktop and/or
Quick Launch icon.

And finally the installation commences.

When the installation completes a dialogue box appears with
helpful instructions regarding all the components in the full DVDFab All-In-One
suite. If you scroll down through these instructions helpful details regarding
DVDFab DVD Copy are further down.

Installation completes smoothly and quickly, then you're given
the option to launch the program and view the "What's New" file,
which is basically just a change log that opened on my machine in Windows
Notepad.

There aren't really any negatives to report here as overall
the installation is simple, effective, and very straightforward. A perfect
start so far.

So having installed the program let's go to the next page
and see what it looks like....
