In the thread where Fengtao announces the release of the new beta ver. 5.2.2.6 - scroll down to the entry by drewp . Please read it, then respond to my comments here.

Hello O Canada,
hows the weather up there? Tried a total uninstall and re-installed 5226. Both righteous kill and bangkok dangerous have the jacket p folder on the dvd. Dvdfab doesnt seem to be able to get past the folder as I get read errors. I guess I could try to copy the dvd to the hard drive and then bypass the jacket p folder thatr way. Seems like a pain though.

Thanx for reading that - the main point was to let you know that the film in question could be copied by Fab... jacket p folder or not.

Writing to the HD isn't such a bad idea, as any conversion you may want to do, say to a mobile device, would require that as a start point for the conversion.

When you were doing the copies you tried, were any error messages generated?

Another point was, copying that particular film could be done by someone else, other than one of Santa's little helpers...(Santa=Fengtao, His little helpers=we who contribute to these threads to help others) without any problems, errors, or special techniques.

If you're still having problems, it's either a system setting, or some other not-so-apparent yet small goof.

By the way, as I write this (noon, thurs Jan 8/09) the weather outside is sunny, mild (for the frozen North... -5 C or approx 23 F, no wind and clear skies).

How 'bout you?

O'C

RESEARCH UPDATE

From The Research Facility Of CDFreaks:

The JACKET_P folder found on some DVDs is nothing more than either a picture from the film on the DVD or some advert. from the Studio that brought you that picture.

As only the VIDEO_TS contents are decrypted by DVDFab, the presence of JACKET_P and its contents in no way affect the job DVDFab does.

Keep getting read errors now from either of my two dvdrw drives. Must be a system problem?

did Righteous Kill region 1 with no problems using dvdfab platinum with pathplayer always enabled and burning with ImgBurn. Also the latest 5.2.2.6 beta works with this title too.

So am I - Good start,

Any games on your system?

Are you over-clocking your CPU?

Have you changed any system settings from XP install settings?

Have you cleaned your drive recently?

If other programs are reading the DVDs, then something is interfering with Fab, while not the others. Will take some detective work to run it down...

One thing I tend to do more out of habit than as a troubleshooting technique is to bring up task manager and delete all unnecessary and unrelated processes.

Basically on a fresh reboot, I want the least amount of processes running. So I select "End Task" on all non-essentials. HP loads about 4 processes for its printers. Widcomm Bluetooth has another 4 processes. ATI Graphics card software have at least 2 useless process. Acrobat software has crap startign up. When I am done, I usually have between 14-19 processes running including task manager itself. Also try temporarily disabling Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware TSRs by using the Computer Management or Services Console as opposed to simply disabling them from the System Tray.

This will insure that there aren't any other apps interfering with DVDFab. Then I start DVDFab and proceed.

Also, you put a small blurb about having uninstalled and re-installed DVDFab. Did you clean out all of the files associated with DVDFab? Located in Prefetch, My Documents, Application Data, Program Files? Did you clean out the registry? Did you run a registry cleaner?

For the sake of thoroughness, I'd attempt cleaning the DVD with a lynt free scratch resistant material.

And finally, how exactly are you determining that DVDFab is failing on the Jacket_P folders? What specific errors are you getting? Or is it just the Abort/Retry/Ignore/IgnoreAll error during ripping?

I did a complete uninstall, prefetch, the whole nine yards. No games, The task manager suggestion is an option i haven't tried yet. I have removed several programs one by one. I agree that something, (could it be a preview codec?) is interfering with dvdfab. Keep stumbling along as I go I guess. Thanks for your suggestions.

Some members have had issues with the preview window in FVDFab, may want to try it disabled...if this works could be related to the direct show which was changed as the default maybe try try changing to the internal setting.

Of course not having info on your graphics card or configuration means my 2 cents is only a stab in dark

ignore all is the only option that seems to keep fab reading. Nothing else seems to affect it, full or movie only, path player or no path player. Looked at task mgr. but didn't see anything going on out of the ordinary there.
