Installed this one. Preview still works fine with the same settings I had before in the last Beta (Direct Show checked, no boxes below checked). I'm not going to mess with the settings this time. With the last version when I started trying different settings in those below checkboxes, everything went caddywampos and it took me a long time to get it working again. I think this time I'm going to leave well enough alone.

I'm not quite sure why Fengtao chose FddShow as the codec. First off it's still Beta, updated daily by the open source community which brings all sorts of risks, and is very complicated to install. I'm pretty experienced and I have a hard time understanding the implications of all those settings during the install. Especially with the umpteen different configurations in different computers. I can imagine what the novice will go through installing it. Dunno why a different simpler codec to set up was not chosen. I think DVDFab's decision to make this a full blown DVD Player instead of just a Preview is going to bring with it all sorts of problems. Just my opinion.

Haven't tried this latest beta, but with beta 5040, the slow opening then
crash issue was still there with 98SE.

@Fengtao,

The last three Beta releases no longer compute the DVDid.xml file when selected. this was working correctly in the most recent non-beta release (5.0.3.0). Have posted a thread;

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/dvdfab...l-file-247091/

and emailed support but so far no response. While the problem is minor it should be an easy fix as it was working ok.

thanks and best regards

I concur. Have used DVDFab for years with no problems. Backed up 4 movies after updating to 5.0.4.0 and had to finalize all 4 manually.

hiya fengtao- recently purchased platinum5 with mobile option. what im trying to do is convert my music dvds to avi files so i can seperate the songs(chapters) into a video folder that i can play as random selections in windows media player. i go to dvd to mobile generic with my target folder set up, frame rate set same as source and set for one pass conversion then press start. all that happens is the encoding fps counter quickly drops to 0.00 and nothing happens even though i have left it running over nite it still shows 0%. my system is vista 32bit with heaps of space left on hard drive on toshiba lap-top running 2gig ram. reloaded with 5.0.4.5 beta but same result and i have followed the tutorial to the letter. other than this hiccup this is a very impressive product. congrats.

There is an easier way to do this now that was not available when I wrote the Guide that is in the tutorial. Just use the "Split by chapters" option on the Conversion Settings page and you will get individual files that you can play as videos or strip the MP3 audio out using Yamb or a similar tool and have just the (smaller) audio files to play randomly. Be sure to use a profile that provides MP3 audio for encoding. I haven't tried this recently, but I have done one since v5 came out that worked fine. Start a new thread if this doesn't work.

I'm still getting burn failures with the latest beta. 5.0.3.5 was the last working version for me. Same movie, same blanks, same machines - 5.0.4.0 through 5.0.4.5 failed at the end of every burn. If I downgrade to 5.0.3.5 it'll work fine. Here's a copy of the log:
