DVDFab / DVD Region+CSS Free Discuss, DVDFab 5.0.4.0 Beta is out at Movie copy software forum; I got Bad Burns twice after I installed 5040 so I uninstalled it and reinstalled 5030. All is well again. I know it's no the media because I only had probems when I installed the new version.

What burning engine did you use when you got bad burns.

Please post the burn log from the failures. Double check all your preferences in Common Settings--some may not have been carried over from the previous release you had installed. One user experienced this, maybe you too.

I don't think I need to all was well until I installed this new version so I uninstalled it and reinstalled 5030. I have all the default settings in options. I reburned with version 5030 and it was sucessful. It said they updated the vso burn engine and since this is a beta. I'm willing to bet that was the problem. Has anyone burned yet in this new version?

Yes I have, about 10 discs with no errors so far, thats why I would have liked to see the VSO burn log, you probably did not have to go back to an earlier version.

I think I'll stick with 5030 for now I don't want to waste more discs. Maybe I'll switch to ImgBurn for burning if this problem persists I've always had good luck with ImgBurn. How do I post a burn log anyway?

So I've installed 5.0.4.0 because I've had issues backing up my DVDs to generic.mp4.h264.aac. The files seem to work on Media Player Classic, but when I look at the files through Tag & Rename, it is showing low to NEGATIVE bitrates, which I don't even understand. Those with bitrates under 100 or negative won't play on my PS3 through Tversity. I was using Nero Recode from AnyDVD rips before, and that worked, but it was two steps, so I started using DVDFab instead. It wasn't until I had backed up several discs that I figured out there was a problem. So I installed 5.0.4.0 and the video quality seems to have improved dratatically. However, the audio quality listed at -94 bitrates. When I played it in Media Player Classic, I had to go into the Audio Options and check Normalize. Anyone have any idea if there is anything that I can do differently?

I have, and I have had bad burns using the vso engine. (tried it again afater the new updated vso came out). I have found it to be problematic for a long time and have gone to use either imgburn or nero. So far 100% success using either of those two engines...

See the release notes. There was a problem with the configuration of the H264 codec in 5035 that was corrected in 5040. I have no idea what negative bitrates means. ?? How can their be any such thing? If the audio is not loud enough or the bitrate is too low, increase either with the controls on the Conversion Settings screen, on the lower left.

See how the one set of shows have good bitrates and then the second one are low or negative? Those are the ones that don't play. I did see that in the release notes, although I just used the new beta. As I said, the picture is much improved, but the audio issues remain (negative bitrates). I'll play with it more, was just looking to see if anyone had any better ideas.

My comments now maybe a little bias at this time, since I am not have not used it and not too sure what version 5.0.4 new feature decoder means.

But I think that DVDFAB has some new Video & Audio previews with directshows.

As an average user, I am not keen looking forward to using this new feature, it looks very complicated (after reading this thread)... I think there will be a lot of people agreeing to my opinion.

Does having the decorders features actually make DVDFAB more stable? Or having this feature will "create" more problems to a version (5.0.3) that has still some bugs? Perhaps, if there are details explaination to the use of the decoders, might help for novices and average users like me.

I personally felt that Fengtao should further improve stability of 5.0.3 instead of adding new feature ( a lot of users has actually asked Fengtao to stop having new features).

With that, I think DVDFAB will soon becoming a very "specialized" tool for "specialized" group of users. Novice and averge users will perhaps be very overwhelmed with DVDFAB and my opt to go for other ripping programs.

Really, Really Sad......Hopefully, I am wrong and those added features are "user friendly". Or at least they serve a purpose to make DVDFAB more stable.

I will download and use it when the stable release of 5.0.4. But I do foresee that there will be more problems then solution.

There is of course no such thing as a negative bitrate; I'm trying to understand what the software is actually trying to tell us. I would suggest looking at one of both the good and bad files with MediaInfo, VLC Media Player, Yamb or AVICodec (if it will read them) and see what they say about differences in the audio streams. If you will post that back I or some other users will try to help you sort this out.

Sea Monster I think you misunderstand what Fab can do, if all you want to do is back up a full movie it works like a charm. If you want to convert from one format to another (i.e. dvd to Ipod) then things get a little more complex. This program is very, very flexible when it comes to all types of converting/backing-up tasks. As with all software some bugs and a learning curve come with the territory.

New features sometimes have problems for some users and the new Preview is no exception. It interacts with the user's OS and installed 3rd party software/firmware in complicated ways, but in practice it is easy and uncomplicated to use. It is a feature that has been requested for years in the Feature Request thread. What could be more "user friendly" than a single right click? The Tutorial page for Settings->Preview has been updated. Read that and try it before you condemn DVDFab to the ash heap of ripper history. LOL

Also to note is that this new preview function is not enabled by default, if you don't change any settings, it's as it was before and that works without problems. It's just when you change to the new preview function there are issues, at least for me.

I am not trying to condem DVDFA or their producers, I am merely trying to view my opinion. For your information, I have a lot of respect for the producers of DVDFAB.

I read thru the tutorial, and I think I know what it does (although, I am not a techie). You can view the movies, listen to audios while burning.

But, my concerned is just that it may affect DVDFAB other burning process. Whether DVD to DVD or DVD to Moblie.

As mentioned, I will download and use the program when the stable release is available. Hopefully, the new feature serve a improvement feature in DVDFAB, which novices and experts users will like.

BTW, I am using K-Lite Codec Pack 3.9.5 standard, it does have a direct show, can I use this program, I noticed it is not within the selections.

Totally agreed to your post....Jethro. Mine was an opinion with certain level of concerned.

I shall try it when the stable version is release. Hopefully, I will not have any problems with it.

I have no idea. The ones shown in the capture are the ones on my system that DVDFab identified. You are certainly entitled to express your opinions here, no problems with that. I think they will be given more weight, at least by me, when you have been a user for a little longer.

Bad file:

Codec: mp4a
English, Audio
Channels: 6
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
Bits per sample: 16
Bitrate: 4608 kb/s

This is from VLC

Strange thing is...the good file says the same.
