DVDFab 4.0.2.0 Beta

I do nothing but back up movies, is the above (#75) thread applicable to that situation? Does MP11 need to be installed for HDDvdFab to work? I have not read that before.

It is needed when doing DVD to Mobile using Platinum version

Because I feel WMP11 is bloated. I don't want all the store listings and preset radio, etc. I don't want DRM. I gave up on WMP after WMP XP (aka WMP8).

Media Player 11 is a Vista app backported to XP. It makes fundamental changes to the OS kernel and can be the cause of a lot of programs not working. WMP11 has a far tighter Digital Rights Management setup than any earlier version and is more likely NOT to play some media.

So DVDFab will no longer install correctly without WMP11? Is that right?

You can disable DRM I did and have no issues

Jt installed fine on my XP rig no problem and I don't have WMP 11 on it

did you have it installed at one time but uninstalled it. maybe left behind wmvcore.dll. seems this file is needed for using WMV files.

Yes I do have the dll but never have installed wmp 11, I do however have WMP 10 which I like better then WMP 11 at least on my XP rig anyway

This DVDFab beta need wmvcore.dll, maybe we can change it, if you not need zune, xbox360 output, you will not need WMP install.

If you don't want to install all WMP, you can download it and extract it to a folder and only run "wmfdist11.exe" in the folder, which have all wmv encoder files.

WMP10 and WMP11 now all is ok, but if in the future we add multi-channels WMA or VC1 encode profile, which is need WMP11 install.

I found 5 copies of wmvcore.dll on my system, all with different sizes and file dates.

for me this is not a problem, but since we have already a member with the issue of not having wmp11 installed it would be a good thing to reference the importance of the needed files installed before releasing the next non-beta version.

maybe the files not needed to install dvdfab platinum, but when trying to use the associated mobile options a pop up screen explains how to install the needed files.

I've found 8.... All different versions & dates....

Which is the right one? The two in windows\system32 & windows\system32\dllcache which are version 11.0.5721.5145?

I have no idea nor where they all came from. I am changing the name of each one except the one in ..\system32... to see which programs quit working.

I think you should also leave the one in the dllcache directory if it's the same version...

I've just checked the latest Microsoft redistributable and it is version11.0.5721.5145 which is the same as the ones in my system32 & system32\dllcache directories.

I think, in sum this would be the best solution for the next versions of DVDFab.

I personally don't have WMP11 installed and I'm not willing to do so. I won't never use neither DVD to mobile, nor zune or xbox360 output options to back up my DVDs.

This could be a real problem for anyone trying to run DVDFab Platinum on Linux. I currently run DVDFab free on Ubuntu and it works very well. IMO Windows Media Player sucks and is nothing but bloatware and DRM. Please don't become what Nero has done trying to do too much in one program and buggy as hell. Have you and Fengtao ever thought about splitting the DVD and Mobile programs and give your customers the options to choose what they want. Some times keeping it simple can be best!

well if this should ever happen fengtao and ting should give the paid customers for dvdfabplatinum a key for the dvd to mobile if they ever decide to do that because were paid customers

Ting, could you add the option of ripping in h.264 or mp4 within the Zune profile? There is native support for h.264 and mp4 on the new generation of Zunes.

Hi indiraider. Here is a profile you can try. It is modified from one I made for my Archos and provides H264+MP3 as an MP4 file. Just download, change the file suffix from .txt to .xml and copy it to your Profiles folder. Don't have a Zune to test it but it looked good with VLC.

I'd be interested in the Archos one. I don't have one but friend does and he is using the PVP one with the profile for Archos gmini 500. He has the Archos 500e.

Hi, Jim. I'm not sure if the 500e will play this but it is worth a try.
As with the other instructions, change the file suffix to .xml and place in the Profiles folder. This one is slightly different and will have to be installed as a "device" using CustomizeUI->DVDtoMobile->click the New button and then select it(ARCHOS H264) from the drop down->click OK->highlight ARCHOS H264 in available options->click right arrow button; the device will now appear as a menu selection in the Mobile navigation pane as ARCHOS H264. In looking through the profiles, these are the only ones that provide H264 and MP3 audio, which I hope will play for your friend on the 500e.
