Fengtao,

Thanks very much for staying on top of this...this looks like the next stable version (for me that is and hopefully for most users) since v.3.0.3.9. Beta.

So far...
Devil Wears Prada, R1, FS, 7.64 GB (7825 MB), LB 3.82 GB:

Main movie: flawless bkup, no problems at all (didn't see burn speed displayed - no biggie - but burned at 8-12X (set at 12X)...for me, same as previous versions.

Clone: In process of rip right now, actual target location (F:\ISO\DEVIL_PRADA_PS.iso) is same as selected (whew!!!), all appears well...will intentionally do clone in two separate processes, ie., rip, close app, open and navigate to .ISO and burn from hdd. Actually, the rip is proceeding faster than in past versions...looks like rip time will be approximately 14 minutes.

Lookin' good folks...so far anyway...

what i always do with each version of DVDFab that comes out is Full Disc, then use DVD Shrink to do movie-only, i personally have no need for the other features in DVDFab, but that's just me

I just backed up Talladega Nights and The Devil Wears Prada, full disc and movie only on both with no problems using beta 3.0.4.6. This put put to rest having to download previous versions ( not a good idea) you never want to go backwards, when we have an author that is willling and able to do his best to make great software. Reverting to an old version is never the answer with any software that has good support. Fengtao is an excellent author and should be congratulated for his hard work. [OFF-TOPIC] @ creaky: say hi to the doc for me.

Thanks for this update, it corrected the errors I was experiencing using Clone Mode. Successfully created the .iso in 1 task and the .iso was located where expected.

I ran into a problem with write data. I split a disc to the hard drive, then went back to try out write data, but it failed with no error message. I then burned the folder using full disc with no problem.

It looks like a number of people have had the same positive experience with Platinum v3.0.4.6 Beta as I have. I did a variety of rips of FullDisc, Splits and Clones to DVD-R and DVD+R DL. All the rips were completely routine and uneventful, and, all the burns were perfect. I just have one thing to say about it...NICE!

I did have 3 crashes though...All related to swapping out the Source Disc "after" the Analysis Phase had run. I think that's been a minor problem for a while though...

Ripped 2 movies with 3.0.4.6. The first I used Movie Only mode to a 4.5 disk and it's perfect. The second I used Movie Only mode to a DL disk. It appeared everything went well but when I played back the movie on my PC it froze at chapter 31 of 46. Tried to play it on 3 other DVD players and my HD DVD player and it froze at chapter 30. Another coaster. I will Clone it and see if I get the same results. Will report back after I do.

I backed up three of my movies without problems using only the Platinum edition for the whole process. Excellent program!

Btw, is there a way to speed up the copying? The average speed is 2.35 MB/s. Does using DVDShrink before burning the movie on a dvd5 makes a big difference in picture quality?

The decryption code in DVDFab Decrypter is the same as the code in DVDFab Gold and DVDFab Platinum, right?

It's all the other stuff that Gold and Platinum does that is unique, correct?

Thanks

Re: Speed
Check to see that DMA is enabled for the read drive and the HDD where the temp files are written. Condition of the disk is also a factor, as are the capabilities of the drive. Most of mine start at 1-2MB/s and end up at 3-5MB/s near the end.

Re: Shrink
The few that I have tried both ways looked pretty much the same. I still use Shrink for anything below 90% just out of habit. Probably time to re-evaluate that.

I know DMA is enable on the HDD because I was prompted to do it when I installed DVDFab but I have to check to read drive. How do I do that?

(Based on assumption of XP, single IDE channel)

Start-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->
Device Manager-->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers-->Right click "Primary IDE Channel", select "Properties"-->Advanced Settings Tab
will show status and current DMA mode. If set for PIO, use pull down to select "DMA if Available". If there are two IDE channels, do the same for the other. Windows will revert to PIO if a drive has read errors and there are ways around that but I don't know them--I count on my IT son to take care of anything deeper than a pull down box. Warning: your mileage may vary!

Thanks for the help! I checked and both IDE Channels are set on DMA. I guess 2.35 MB/s is my average speed. Maybe it also depends on the DVD disc, one of my movies copied at 2.87 MB/s.

Yes, I've noticed some variation from disc-to-disc. The ones I've bought "previously viewed", i.e. scratch-and-dents, run slower. You also might try a lens cleaning disc; helped me once when my read speeds got down close to 1X

Hi Kik0Man,
Are you using just one optical drive?
Are both reading and burning slow? (not sure what you meant by copy ie., read +/or burn)
Has your speed just recently slowed?
Your burner make, model, firmware and MID (media ID) would help alot,
(just click on nero cdspeed below in my sig...it'll display all this info for you).
