Ordinarily, I'd recommend that you test it with nero cd-dvd speed, but it has gone the way of payware as opposed to freeware. If you already have it, you certainly can test your drive and you can also update the codecs for nero. It's also possible that the drivers have been corrupted or lost. Any recent burn software installed? You can try uninstalling the burner in device manager, reboot and windows will reinstall the device and assign the appropriate drivers. You can also try a registry patch called: cdgone Just clink on the link I posted, scroll down to Restore Missing CD Drive and give it a shot. Good luck.
