You might think I'm cold blooded on this one.
I always liked Dolly Pardon singing her song " I Will Always Love You " a lot better than Whitney's rendition.

I like Dolly's version as well, although it's hard to look at her now after all of the plastic surgery that she had done on that once glorious face of hers. Good lord, what was she thinking?? Why can't some women accept a line or two without freaking out?

Yeah I like the both of them too but Whitney Houston's version makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

It's a truly exceptional performance as her voice is so pure, clear, powerful and controlled.

Wombler have you ever listened to Dolly's version from the 1974 Jolene album ?
Or the CD made from the original .
I know it has the country tone of Dolly's voice & maybe that is more my taste . But it fits your description of Whitney's version to my ears.

I'm not sure.

I know I've heard the first version Dolly Parton did but I'm not sure if that's the same one or not.

Wombler , The first version is on the 1974 album Jolene .
Usually I've heard Dolly sing it "live" meaning on a TV show of some kind.
Of course as Dolly gets older she has lost some of her voice quality like many singers do.
In 1974 Dolly would have been 28 .
Interestingly enough in 1992 Whitney was 28 when she first recorded the song.
I bet if Whitney had recorded the song a couple of weeks ago it would not have sounded the same as in 1992 either.
I am a Dolly Parton fan if you hadn't guessed.
If you get a chance listen to Dollys CD Treasures . Mostly duets with the singers of their songs.
