White ones are ink jet printable while silver ones unless labeled with Brand Name may be thermal printable or possibility ink jet printable as silver tops make the labels shinier. But both should have the same purple Metal AZO Dye.

OK Tim,Tom,Paul,Mike,Alan,Ron here is one for you, My 112D is showing up on my coumpter as Zip 250 with the icon instead of showing DVR-RW and a DVD icon I do have a zip drive on (D) and it shows as removable disk I have done all the routines of disconnecting and connecting them one at a time but get the same results, My 112 does work just fine but just the way it list bugs me. Also the 112 is the master and a 106 is the slave. Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like you did or are in the middle of doing the firmware update? Is the disc still in the drive?

Did you copy to a floppy diskette or CD? I know that when I updated mine, my first attempt I only got the file name copied to the disc and had to dig a little deeper to find the actual file. Than I left it in the drive like the instructions said but later needed to have it removed before shuting done the PC and rebooting. But that was my first time doing a firmware update.
I'm just spit balling here. I really don't know all that much. Someone should add something soon.
Do you know for sure that the update took?
    Ron

    Hi Jim
The other day when you said something about doing a firmware update for one of your drives and asked me if I thought it would effect the other drive when you did the firmware update, and I said to un-install the other drive just to be safe.
Are you talking about the same drives

You have done this before? Sounds like the zip isn't installed. Sorry to keep at this. Did you copy the download to a disc and insert it into the drive you are updating. The way you worded it, it sounds like it is only installed (downloaded) to your HD.
If you open Fab, does it show the drive and the version update?
If it's working I guess it's OK. The ZIP sounds weird.

Just that he went offline. I don't know him that well and maybe he got insulted when I asked if he had done this before. It just sounds to me thet the zip file is still floating around and not installed.

Jim is a good guy don't think he is that way, most likely disconnecting the drives and reinstalling them

Tim, Glad you are back. I've only done one firmware update and had signals help me with that. Thought Jim might be in a tight spot in the middle of an update so I was trying to help the best I could.

I know that when I did my update and restarted the PC afterwards that a black screen came up with a bar graph showing the progress of the update as it was installing. The first time,I left the disc in like the instructions said and after it restarted it showed a zip.

It was like that before I did the firmware update, I also uninstalled the 112 and rebooted but same so I uninstalled my pri ide channel and rebooted but still same, I then uninstalled the zip completely and rebooted thats when I got the correct icon for the 112 but still shows zip 250, shut down and hooked back up zip drive but didn't install software ( it works just like a floppy no extra stuff) everything is good except for that damn name zip 250 instead of DVD-RW
