Re: DVD FAB Products Discussion Thread

If you remember the old floppies we used to use, they went through a similar process...

When the system started to write one, it had no pre-knowledge of exactly where the file was going to go. It found the first free sector, and started the write, skipping used or un-writeable sectors (hence the need for defrager's), and when the write was finished, all the used sectors for that file were updated in the FAT table, the total sectors used calculated, CRC or Checksum performed, etc. etc., and the file (on the disc) was at that point considered successfully written (the point being that no more of the available floppy space was needed to update the FAT table, that was all tracked in sector 0.)

Same deal (more or less) with DVDs. Finalization involves tieing together all the threads and logging it in what I'll call the dvd's FAT table (located at the beginning of the inner ring of the burnable side), so if the rest of the DVD has been filled with film data & stuff, doesn't matter. (Also makes a difference -in terms of available space after a burn - in what DVD-5 setting you select for disc size. ( still lotsa space).

There are a couple of other things written during finalization, but that all occurs in the first few sectors, which aren't written to at all during the initial burn, so there will be space to finalize.

Clear as mud, now, R I G H T ?

How ya doin' today?

So far, so good for me... except for this cold I seem to have picked up... don't let me sneeze on you!!

Yeah... I do tend to be somewhat wordy...

Back at the forum (kinda like back at the ranch) I noticed in the thread qwarantine started that you and I are parallel posting.

If we can figure out a way to charge for our services, we should clean up (and let's include the rest of the squad, too).

Did you get that coffee you didn't have 2 hrs. ago?

See ya!
