| Can't watch movies in Windows Media Center Hi, A few questions: 1. I download my movies from the DVD to an external HD, using the DVD to DVD function, "Movy only" and ticked the box "create dvdix.xml...". But I can watch the movies only in WMP but not in WMC. Why is that? 2. What is an ISO file and when shall I use that function for. Is that to get a unique icon of the cover of the dvd? Many thanks for your help Last edited by Fanfan; 13-04-2009 at 21:56. |

ISO files are useful for duplicating or backing up CDs and DVDs because they copy every bit of data exactly from the disc; this is different than copying all files from a disc because the disc header information is lost in the process; an ISO file can be used to restore a disc exactly to the original version. It has nothing to do with the unique icon of the disc cover.

| Re: Can't watch movies in Windows Media Center You can also Rip the DVD to a video file that you have codecs installed for. This will produce much smaller file sizes. I use this and use an app called Media Browser. When the files are named appropriately, Media Browser finds and downloads the movie cover/ poster synopsis and other info. It looks really sharp, and has lots of features to choose from to customize it to your liking. http://www.mediabrowser.tv/ I use a video bitrate of at least 1500kbps and usually more like 2000kbps. |
