I have movie files on a hard drive that I'm trying to burn to DVD-R or DVD+R and I can't figure out how to get it done.

Whenever I put in the DVD-R it doesn't get picked up in the target dropdown in dvdfab. It just shows the drive name D:\ but does not pick up the DVD-R and I'm not sure why.

If someone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this and if the solution is obvious and I'm just missing it, sorry in advance.

Thanks a lot!

welcome theblackpage,

use the Write data mode, select your movie files ( either video_ts folder or iso file ), select your burner as target ( yeah just your burner ) and click start. this is the easiest method to burn using dvdfab unless you need to compress or re-author the movie before burning then you may need to use customize mode. either way just select the burning drive as target.

i would make just a few changes before burning. in settings change the write type to SAO and set the write speed to 8x. after you have burned something please post a log for review. my documents/ dvdfab/ log.

here is a link to the official guide, please review it. if you have more questions or need some help just ask.

Thanks for the response. I took a look at the guide and did the changes to the settings. Now, when I select the video folder there is no option for target. It just says choose dvd image file. I can't select the burner as the target (although I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that anyway) so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

ok lets try again.

Source: click the folder icon and navigate to the video_ts folder you want to burn.

Target: click the drop down list and select your dvd writing drive

please read over this page of the tutorial.

well, when I do that the drop down menu is blank. In write data mode, it just asks for to please choose dvd image file. The drop down is blank and the folder symbol is not there at all.

Technology hates me.

Click on the folder symbol next to the source box (to the right) then select the video T's you want to burn, The target box will not say dvd-r it will say just the path to the drive: D:\ this is correct just click burn and away you go.

It has to be a video T's file it will not see anything else. By the way Kgtiger you should post a thread of your own as this is considered hijacking because it is not they same problem as the OP

I am having the same problems. Can only copy to C. when I want to copy to dvd, when I choose target D:\ , I get message there is no directory and/or message that disk is full. I assumed it had to do with the installation problem of "failing to initalize burn engine" message I get.

In write data mode, it just asks the choose dvd image file in target location. when I click on the symbol to the far right, and then the little box in the choose iso image file window and try to select the D: drive it says to please insert a disc into drive D, but my blank CD-R is in there.

when I try to copy the file from the Full disc mode it says failed to create directory D:\fulldisc\DVD-Volume.

I suck.

sorry for not replying i had some personal stuff to do.

to me this just seems like a simple user error ( sorry ). can you please take a screen shot of your dvdfab screen and post it here to view? be sure to have your problem captured.

1. with dvdfab window open press alt+print screen

2. open a image program ( windows paint will work )

3. past the screen shot in the image program

4. save as .png file

5. when in reply posting, scroll down to manage attachments

I suck.

You are in imageburn and it is looking for a iso file not a vob file.
If you saved in vob format you will need to go to build mode first if you want it as an iso image.
If you want it as vob go to DVDFab settings and change burner to the VSO setting instead of the imgburn setting.

Happy Burning

sorry bean but theblackpage is using only dvdfab. in a previous post i requested theblackpage to use dvdfabs write data mode. this mode will write both vob and iso.

also you can burn both with imgburn as well.

I'll leave this one to you.

Hi theblackpage,

I agree with Troy....I think you're not configuring the Write Data burn correctly...shouldn't be difficult to troubleshoot.
Follow Troy's suggestions on posting a screenshot so that we can see your setup.

First of all, please update to the current version: Platinum v.5.0.5.0

The Write Data mode will allow you to burn directly from already ripped files on your hdd, ie., Fab will not re-rip the files, it will not create a "temporary directory".

You still should be able to open these files (movies) with any of the other modes, such as Customize, Full Disc, etc., but in all of these Fab will re-rip the files to a temp directory and then burn...added steps that you don't need, but still should work.

Are you able to open these files with Fab, in any of the modes?

The first of the icons (folder icon) to the right of Source is for DVD Folders comprised of VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS Folders (btw, audio is empty).

The far right icon is for .ISO files and looks like a dogeared page with a disc overlay.

Here's what your screenshot should look like....minus the redstuff...
(I chose .ISO file as Source...be certain to choose the correct icon to navigate to the hdd files).
