Anyone store movies on a portable hard drive

I store my movies on a portable hard drive then burn them later. Once I've burned them I delete em. Mybook makes a box you can hook up to your Tv and your drive to. When you connect your drive to it the box searches it for videos. I'm considering it right now. My friend has it and says it works great.

This is the wrong subforum for your query...maybe ask a mod to move it.
Anyway, I don't have this WD, but most user reviews are very favorable.
Take a look at Amazon with its 170 customer reviews.

Recently, I went with a Roku Digital Video Player ($99) which allows me to stream about 12,000 free movies from NetFlix. The picture is outstanding and since I'm on a fiber optic cable with roadrunner there are no gitches with play, pause, fastforward, etc.

It connects via ethernet or wifi to all our pcs and laptops. In addition, roight now it is on a coaxial feed to my son's HDTV.
I'm still waiting for NetFlix to add my son's PS3 to their "devices" so I can get my Roku back...

Re: Anyone store movies on a portable hard drive

hi,

I have a WDTV too, because WDTV cannot support DVD directly, I think maybe rip DVD to the MKV file and can keep audio, subtitle, chapter information is a good solution.

I am working for this, hope can finish it soon.

I would move it the Gen Hardware Forum, but since Ting has interest in this and replied I will keep it here for awhile. It should be known however that you need a 7,200RPM external hdd to watch Bluray movies from, a 5,400 RPM does not have fast enough transfer rate.
