adding buttons to menu
| DvdReMake Discuss, adding buttons to menu at Movie copy software forum; Hi. I need to add subtitles to dvd so, that I could also select them from menu later, where I also need to add corresponding button. Menu looks like this: http://freehost.ath.cx/viewimage.php...7/AkK90007.jpg . How can I add a button there and how could I link it to corresponding subtitles? |

| To add an extra subtitle button to an existing menu, you need to reauthor using some menu authoring software. Here are the general steps: 1. Extract the menu background to a bitmap via 'Export frame' in Preview window of DRMP. 2. Extract the subpicture bitmap for the button highlight with Subrip. 3. Edit the menu background and subpicture bitmap with some picture editor, e.g. Photoshop. If using Photoshop, the menu background must be saved as 24-bit OS/2 bitmap; subpicture as 4-bit bitmap. 4. Author these 2 modified bitmaps with some authoring software. I use DvdLab Pro and DVD Maestro. 5. Replace the original menu with the modified one in DRMP via 'Replace block'. 6. Change the button command for the new button(s) to activate the desired subtitle. Follow the button command format from the original buttons. 7. Test in debugger to see if everything's working. 8. Test in software player to see button highlight when selected/activated. 9. Once satisfied, burn away. The only time consuming process is step 3, maybe 4 depending on how familiar you are with the software. Some authoring software include freewares like DVDAuthorGUI, Gui for DVDAuthor (GFD), DVDStyler; commercials like DvdLab (Pro), DVD Workshop, NeroVision Express, TMPGEnc DVD Author, etc. Similar topic: http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewto...?p=11574#11574 |

I'm doing about exactly what you have described here. In my case, I replaced the main menu in DVD created by DVDlab Pro by the main menu from original DVD and keep the new subtitle menu. I did this because I'm not DVD commands savvy. (You know some of the DVDs have its buttons command like "Link TailPGC", what is the program doing this command? Can DVDlab Pro doing this?) I then exported the DVD and played it on Power DVD. The buttons just worked great on it. However, I'm facing a problem to display all these buttons on a standalone DVD player after I burnt the movie on a DVDRW to test it on the player. The menu showed on TV without any buttons shown. What could be the problem? TQ in advance. |
| LinkTailPGC links to the post-command section of the current PGC. Of course, DLP can set this command => right-click on the button hotspot -> Link -> VM Command. A VM Script window opens, type over Nop with LinkTailPGC. Notice that the DVD VM Commands on the right of dialog window automatically scrolls to the possible commands as you type. Are you saying there's no button highlight shown when a button is selected in standalones? Can you navigate around the menu button selection? So you replaced the DLP main menu with the original DVD main menu? I thought it's the other way around. |
| Yes, there is no button highlight shown when a button is selected in standalones. I can navigate and activate the menu without knowing which menu I would be directed to due to no highlight was shown. Yes, I replaced the DLP main menu with the original DVD main menu coz the subtitles menu in the original menu is VM Scripted. If I did it vice versa like your instruction above, I have to delete some of the useless VM commands. Since I'm a VM Script naive, I'm afraid the subtitle menu might not be working well. |
| Make sure there's actually a subpicture highlight for the button graphics. No button highlight could be something to do with the CLUT. Do Step 4 from this GUIDE. If you don't understand VM commands, deleting them could cause adverse affect in the navigation. |

| yeah, you can rip it with Subrip. I had the same problem in the past too. PowerDVD shows up fine, but not on dvd player. But then when I try playing on WinDVD or Showtime, no button highlights. This comes to show that software players are very lenient and are not 100% trustworthy. Standalones are the real test. Even then, some standalones are more lenient than others. Sony is the strictest of all as it conforms to DVD specs. It turns out the problem is the button info in the VOB, but that has been fixed in several past versions. There's no problem now. Check the development history page for more details. With this said, what version are you using? I need to see what you're seeing so I have an idea of how you're editing menus. Could you convert to still all the original menus (the source before any editing), disable the audio in the menu domain, hide everything that is not related, export, zip ALL IFOs and menu VOB, and upload to some file hosting site, e.g. savefile.com. Also, upload the original DLP files so I can test. Then could you describe in details again how you replaced the menus and where they are specifically. And which useless VM commands did you delete? |
| Sorry for late reply coz I'm quite busy these few days. I will follow your instruction to do the project once again since I have deleted the file. And I will upload the file when I'm free. I'm still using version 3.5.3. TQ for all your replies. |
| I wish to add an extra chapter problem to a project. I already have the old DVD saved as project one. I have authored a second DVD using Sony's DVD Architect 3 & it all works OK. I have looked at the suggestions in this thread but I'm still confused. I just don't know enough about PGC view & dding a button & then connecting the button the the additional new files that I have created. I have even added a button to the screen but the problem now arises as to exactly what I have to attach to this button & just how this is done. I have all of the different files that appear for the new DVD in a folder. Are any of these files use what I'm supposed to use & if so which one? Or am I completely on the wrong track? I have read the links mentioned in this thread but they didn't help. __________________
