CD-reading

This drive seems to be a very good CD reader.

This rather bad disc used for testing came with a Liteon LH18A1P, you can see how other drives did with this challenge here http://club.cdfreaks.com/1810122-post98.html

Conclusion CD writing/reading

Error rates are low and all discs produce a perfect 52x tranfer-rate curve. Looking at the scans alone the CD writing capability looks very good. However there remains the Log-In problem. There seems to be some issue with the quality/compatibility of the Lead-In (and -Out) this drive writes. Currently I wouldn't use this drive for quality CD writing.

On the other hand, CD reading looks excellent. This drive looks like a very good choice for data salvation/ripping.

Conclusion DVD writing and quality scanning

Except for some higher PIE errors on the -R Verbatim and some higher PIF erros on the -R Yuden (which seems to be media related, since i see that on other drives too) the results look very good.

Quality scanning compared to the PX-760 shows quite different results for the most part. While one cannot expect the drives to agree in absolute terms (number or errors) it's interesting to see the drive don't even agree in tendency, most notable in the -R Verbatim burn.

Addendum to the CD Log-In problem

The same phenomena also shows in the Samsung itself and in an LG-H44N too.

Comparing scanning capabilities

A rather bad burn dating from 2005. The Plextor sees quite a bit more errors.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "Log-In" of the disc. Do you mean the initial recognition time when the disc is loaded, or do you mean something else?

Like to elaborate little more in detail what goes wrong when burning CD's.
Don't have the S202* burner but S203* series burn all my CD's perfect.
Honestly, I don't understand what you like to tell us with expressions like; "quality/compatibility" of "Lead-In (and -Out)"...

BTW, IIRC CD/DVD Speed "create data disc" is written in DAO (disc at once) isn't it? Drage correct me please if I'm wrong.
