But if you think about it (and I did), it indeed will create a strange effect on the poll when adding new drives because time itself is of course a huge factor with voting and ratings.
Yep, that's why we let them run their course then start a new one.

I'd imagine this one will probably run for long enough to get a decent response though as the releases of brand new optical drives are getting further and further apart these days.

Isn't it almost possible to say that the new revisions remain fairly close to the old revisions, so looking for an updated model based on a slightly older poll would be safe enough?

It depends on what you mean by a revision.

New firmware, I'd say probably yes.

New model, no, and I wouldn't like to gamble on that as there are examples in the past where drive manufacturers have got things wrong when updating successful models.

The replacement model could even be made by an entirely different company to the model it replaces as a lot of drives are re-branded and the manufacturing contracts will change according to whatever deal the company buying the drives can negotiate.

Ah, thanks. I hadn't thought of things with such depth. Your points are quite right.

The new management doesn't get what the foundation of CDFreaks consisted of - and that is why Club MyCE sucks.

The old management did - and THAT is what made CDFreaks so darn good.

Don't take my word for it - look at the current number of member peeps logged in-eh.
Is there a better forum that does have a Best Of list that you know of?

CD Freaks ruled! Been my go-to-place on CD\DVD stuff for years.

So, where did everyone move to?

And YEAH, loved the reviews and the "best rated" list

Glad to see you here jimi2010 and thanks for the comments, much appreciated!

Just FYI, I'm the old founder of the site. I was out for three years due circumstances but got the site back almost a year ago.

Unfortunately during my absence the name and layout were changed and with it the general focus on the site. I really regret this and feel my baby got ruined. Now I'm working hard, together with our excellent team to get the site back to the heights it was.

I know that the former management didn't listen to you, but I love to listen. This site is made for nothing more than to serve our members. But unfortunately I can't do it all by myself. So any feedback and help is appreciated.

If you have time to write guides, news, FAQs then please do so and we will support you. If you have questions please post and if you have answer then please post them too.

But also send me information on what you would like and we'll really consider adding it. Unfortunately we can't make everything happen because we have limited resources so the more our members contribute the more we can make happen.

Regarding where people went too, I think that optical storage is not as hot as it was anymore. While there is still a huge market, the amount of people that want to get the most of their drive is probably a small amount. We would love to embrace that small amount and by all means want to keep them here.

But in the meanwhile we also try to embrace new technologies like SSDs and other computer storage products. We hope you will also be(come) interested in these technologies, we already have a large amount of SSD reviews: http://www.myce.com/review/
