Recording direct to DVD

Panasonic DVD Recorder and Player Forum Discuss, Recording direct to DVD at Standalone Video Players & Recorders forum; I have just got a DMR 88EB and I have been told that you cant record direct to a dvd from the tv. You have to record it to the HDD and then dub it across to a DVD is this true?
