I opened this unit up to remove a stuck disc and put everything back together. Now it's been "recovering" for over 15 minutes without stopping....is this something I should worry about? How long should this take? Should I just let it continue or should I do something else? The disc trouble is the first problem I've had since purchasing the device in January of this year. Thank you for any help. |

| Perhaps leaving your DMR-EZ47 unplugged for a few hours may help. Are you hearing louder than normal sounds from the DVD drive? If so there may be a problem with the drive. It is very important that the roller/slider mechanism at the rear of the disc tray is positioned to the left, as shown in the photo, before the drive lid is closed. The left-most positioning correctly aligns the roller/slider with the guide rail on the underside of the DVD drive lid when the disc tray is in the closed position. There are other reassembly complications addressed in detail here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1055071 While I don't have a DMR-EZ47, I understand that this model has had a number of problems. There is a dedicated thread (with 525 posts) found on that same forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...highlight=ez47 DigaDo (TalkieTime) Last edited by DigaDo; 31-08-2008 at 04:57. |

http://www.pstc.panasonic.com/Epartr...ListChoice.asp The better alternative is the $130 flat-rate repair through the corporate Panasonic Digital Service Center in Elk Grove Village Illinois. See this post for more information: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f106/panaso...8/#post2111599 Often the DVD Drive needs but a lens and rubber hub cleaning to return it to functional condition, a fifteen minute procedure with a DMR-EZ47V. | thank you all. the price to replace the unit is more than purchasing a brand spanking new machine. I think i will just get a new machine and for sure, not a Panasonic. thanks again for the replies |

If your DVD Drive was giving intermittent "no read" reports with "grinding" or "scrubbing" noises, rubber hub cleaning is indicated. If the DVD Drive no longer reads discs and there are "clunking" or "chugging" noises the lens may be dirty or have failed. Clean the lens. If the lens cleaning does not remedy the situation then lens assembly replacement or replacement of the DVD Drive is indicated. If the DVD Drive no longer spins up or the disc tray no longer opens the problem may not be with the DVD Drive itself. Ribbon cables, their connections, the DVD Drive onboard controller board or the Digital PCB are more likely problems. With the common EZ series bugs and design flaws there is usually a glut of used EZ series Panasonics found on eBay. The last two 2007 EZ series machines I purchased were less than $21, including shipping. With the usual EZ series workarounds these machines have given minimally satisfactory service for the last nine months. Some parts like Digital PCBs are year and model specific, i.e. with a DMR-EZ47 one must use a Digital PCB from an EZ47 or EZ475. DVD Drives from other 2007 EZ series machines may be swapped, a ten minute job. It's best to avoid the Panasonic EZ series combo recorders but the DMR-EZ28 is a pretty good DVD recorder: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post16664799 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post16669447 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post16676557 |
