DMR-EZ28 can I Use an external hard drive

I have a Pnasonic DMR-EZ28 DVD recoerder? I have hooked it up but it says that it is not formatted properly can someone help me out please. Thanks a

The USB port does not support a hard drive. See your DMR-EZ28 Operating Instructions, beginning on page 28, for use of the USB port.
