| I will start by stating the system details; I have a Gateway M520X, 512MB Ram, 80GB Drive, Nero 6.6.0.15, P4 3.1GHZ. The slimdrive I use is TSSTCorp TS-L532A Drive. (DCRW/DVDRW) Operating system : Windows Xp SP2. I am able to perform the following; Read/write CD-r's without a problem using DVDclone, DVDcopy, Nero 6.6.0.15, Burn4Free (and these are the 4 programs I am using). Music CD's (CDA format) are fine to be read/ripped, Bios Boot Disk works just fine (windows XP Pro), standard disk (Nero for example start up just fine when inserted) and DVDrom Play (using DVDpro or Nero Player) is Just Fine. I would put any DVD-/+R (like 12 brands tested here) Windows reconize the drive with a BLANK CD (presenting me the choices) Tried DVDinfopro, it sees the drive just fine, but when I put a DVDR in it reads the DVD-/R just fine, but if I query the drive again a few minutes later the software indicates "NO MEDIA PRESENT" I even had updated the TS-30 on the TSST drive to a SDR-6472 firmware with the same result. I am back to SB00 Firmware at this time with the same issue when I try to burn a DVDR with nero it starts fine, (2x burn) then it always fails... I join the log from the last burn I have done. I hope someone can help me, perhaps I need to get this drive changed again (this is my 3rd time under warranty!) | Well I have been contacting GATEWAY and after telling me to remove the drives and ide port in system and rebooting my machine, they replied the following.. "I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. To further troubleshoot this issue, I suggest you to reseat the DVD burner. I have provided the link for your reference on the steps below. http://www.support.gateway.com/s/Mob...915faq68.shtml If this did not resolved the issue, the DVD burner will need to be replaced." I guess the TS-L532A drive is really crap.... (first one that came with the laptop worked fine until one morning it just stopped spin up/down, then the 2nd drive they sent me refused to open the tray, same for the 3rd drive, and now this drive refusing to burn DVD-/+R...) next time I think I will stick with toshiba brand laptop (never had this problem with my other laptop (satellite 4600 Pro with CDRW/DVDR drive in it) Ill keep you all posted. | Well the saga will continue later on, but at this time (after an exchange of 12 emails in 4 hours with gateway customer support, they are sending me yet another TS-L532A replacement, Ill keep yall posted on what happens next. on a side note; After being tired of waitting after Gateway to make their mind up (gawd their Staff sux at technical support) I went and purchased a new Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S (F/W KS04) - this is the external usb model, and it burned a full 4.5GB DVD+R in 7.25 mins. (Using ImgtoolBurn 1.2.0) , it burned nicely a CDR+R Memorex (Ritek R03.8#T7) Rv 02H Perfectly, popped it into my DVD Player (Cheap 38$ unit from walmart and worked like a charm.) I LOVE THIS DRIVE !!!! Now to hope the nex TS-L532A Gateway sends me works... Cheers Patrick |

Well the saga comes to a conclusion today, I got a new drive from gateway, they shipped me the HLSD-LG GWA-4040N F/W 1.02, and it works like a charm. I called them to ask why they sent me a different drive and the guy on the phone replied rather quietly, that they had some issues with the other model (no really go figure I was thinking!) ... Well all is well that ends well. Suggestion: keep arrasing Gateway (I did mine using the Email process, which was less painfull than listening to an 18year old asking me if I ever burned a CD before...) Cheers and good luck folks.

Hi, I've also got the same problem (or pretty close). I've been stalking this forum for a while just browsing and searching for a remedy to my problem. Sorry if it seems that i'm hijacking ur post but I haven't been able to burn a single DVD-r or +r since i bought my laptop with this drive on it. It burns cd-r's,cd-rw's, and dvd+-rw's fine though. pbureau, It seems that you have access to different firmwares for this drive, can u please tell me where i can download them? or maybe, if u don't mind emailing it to me, it's glennguyen@gmail.com. I have been searching the web for other firmwares for this drive but with no success. What is the latest firmware for it anyway? I really wanna upgrade my firmware to see if it will make a difference. My current firmware for this drive is TI50, which is pretty outdated i think (i read somewhere in this forum, a guy with TI51 in his drive). TIA
- #6
Well in my case the change of firmware done no difference, if you can read CDR and DVDroms and can burn CDR's but not DVDR (-/+ either way) I would arrash the corp you bought it and get it replaced under warranty. (btw better get ready for multiswap as the refurbished ones they send me (I did this 3 times) where no better, I am glad they changed it to an HLDS drive at least it works properly now...
- #7
can you please tell me where i can get the firmwares anyway? i really wanna try them out before i contact my supplier about the warranty. TIA

I too have problems with this drive. I can read CD's and DVD's but I can't burn any CD's. Whats the problem. I tried using nero, it worked once. The Defult program with WINDOWS XP doesn't work, and any of the other freeware programs I've burned don't work. WHats going on. Can anyone help me? THanks.

Well just to let everyone know, I just got done with Gateway because I have the same problem. They said there is no known issue with this drive. Leads me to believe they do not care about their customers. I for one will not buy again another Gateway product, and I am urging everyone else to do the same.
