i have searched for topics on this drive, TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M, and have seen other people have been having similar problems. i have the latest firmware (as far as i know) HR08.
It does not like to read some dvds, the ones that it does read (including actual movie dvds purchased from the store) will skip when playing. it doesnt have any problems reading regular cds though.

anyone know why it might be doing this?

Try doing a Transfer Rate Test (Speed benchmark) with Nero CD-DVD Speed.
Please post the graphs of it.
