I have tried at 4x,8x,12x in nero and all fail it says it gets to 4% but the burner light dosent even flash like when burning and i looked at the bottom of teh disc and there is no data but the disc has become unreadable i have tried one in ConvertXToDVD program via built in burning thing and it got to 10% and the burner just slowed down and didnt burn anymore.
Im really annoyed and i will be taking the pack back to JBHIFI as iam dissapointed with the discs and this burner right now.
DOes anyone know anything i can fix this with the discs from online stats seem to be really good im just angry they are not giving their potential to me.
Please

Hi,

at first, try other media since it is not impossible that your drive supports these discs poorly (if at all).

Additionally, you should uninstall Intels Application Accelerator. Windows built-in drivers are more reliable.

I agree that there's a good chance that the media isn't well supported. If the drive offers 12x, I'd think that it had some support, but it's possible that your drive is just too old for your media [which is generally very good]. You might be better off with 8x discs, and, as fatfeel says, stay with DVD+R if possible [as this is the drive's strong point].

Well i would but this is mainly for ps2 backups which work better on - but i have succesfully burnt a movie at 2x on these discs so its good but reliability in player is also good it starts straight away and no problems but why wont 4x work then?

but to tell you if these discs burnt at 4x or 8x they would be maybe the best discs ive got so far because of how smoothly they start in the player.

The drive is...well, I won't say it is a piece of crud, but it is a VERY poor writer. Even with some of the best media, it produced poor results. Higher speeds only agitated the problem. So you might be stuck at 2x, if that's what gives you the best results.

Sony media [SONYD21 for 16x DVD+R and SONY16D1 for 16x -R] is very good, and often provides a stable, reliable, long-lasting backup. I absolutely love the things for giveaway, because I never get complaints. BTW, Ritek and Princo...not always the best, but some can actually be good.

I agree, if the drive allowed 4x or 8x with good quality, they just might be your best bet. I would say swap strategies with SONY08D1 [8x media], that might allow you to burn at 8x or 4x, but I can't say that strategy is any better.

you could try to cross-flash the drive to US09
because they claim that the U version is better than B with DVD-R
you can go back if don't like the result

P.S. you do this at your own risk and cross-flashing void the warranty

Get SFDNWIN from the CodeGuys website [Google search; first result listed]. Download it to C:\, for ease of use.

Get the TS-H552U firmware from the Samsung ODD Support site.

Open a command prompt and run the newly downloaded SFDNWIN with the option "-nocheck" [so it will look like C:\SFDNWIN -nocheck], and flash your firmware as normal.

I can't get access to the CodeGuys website right now, though, but I can tell you that they have two versions of SFDNWIN. Avoid 3.27.xx, as the -nocheck option will NOT work.

If you run the program with the -nocheck option as specified, it should show "-nocheck" in the program window to confirm you are running with that option.

no
just type "c:\sfdnwin -nocheck"

did you put the content of the folder in the C:

edit: you can copy the command and paste it in run if want
but sfdnwin should reside in C: not in subfolder

I have just burnt a Ps2 Backup onto the exact same discs Sony DVD-R 16x Acucore and it worked perfectly the first time i tried in DVD Decryptor at 4x no more 2x anyways i dont know if its the Cross Flash from TS12 to US09 or the program but anyways i am happy with the result and the discs are great discs in the ps2 ussually with some dvd's you can hear the laser and sometimes a clicking noise with these sony discs you cant hear the laser at all only when loading something big and the disc runs smooth there is no noise at all and the games load really fast this is what i expected from sony discs and ive got it now anyways Thank to all esp fatfeel.
Just one question do you think its the firmware which fixed it and why arent U and B the exact same things besides the faster dual layer writting from 2.4x to 4x?

nice to hear the good news
U have better DVD-R support beside the faster DVD+R-DL than B
so I would think that cross-flashing is a factor but probably not the only reason
but if your happy, who cares why?
